INTRODUCTION This study seeks to understand the barriers women face in accessing modern health care in the city of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.Purpose of research We examined the experiences, perceptions and representations of the population and caregivers by conducting a total of 66 semi-directive interviews. RESULTS In Goma, the use of healthcare facilities often requires the prior consent of the husband or head of the family. Within hospitals and health centers, sexual harassment appears to be a common practice that may discourage some girls or women from accessing health care. In the female population, young girls, single mothers and women victims of sexual violence face specific obstacles. Caregivers, far from being neutral technicians, are imbued with dominant cultural and religious norms; this has repercussions on the services provided. CONCLUSIONS By relating gender to marital status, age, education level and socio-economic profile, we were able to understand the specific barriers faced by certain categories of women. However, women are not the only ones facing difficulties in accessing care. It would be interesting to track studies on other discriminated groups in order to gain a global understanding of the situation.INTRODUCTION This article relates and analyzes a partnership between a local and an international organization settled both in Djibouti.Purpose of research From the very beginning, ongoing observational and analytical assessment allowed for a complete study of the entire partnership process, from the initial replies to calls for projects to the completion of projects. RESULTS Results are given from two angles. A factual narrative of the partnership first illustrates some behaviors, and then the whole partnership is analyzed. Moreover, it pleads for aid localization and for local structures dedicated to development.localization and for local structures dedicated to humane development.OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to identify factors associated with survival among prisoners at Mbuji-Mayi Central Prison, in Democratic Republic of Congo between January&nbsp;2014 and December&nbsp;2016. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study. The mortality rate was calculated during the 3-year follow-up period and the Kaplan-Meier survival curve was determined. Cox regression and risk ratio (HR) were used to analyze and quantify factors associated with survival. The study involved a total of 793&nbsp;inmates. RESULTS The average age of inmates was 33&nbsp;±&nbsp;10&nbsp;years (extremes 17-67&nbsp;years). The median follow-up time was 12 months for a total of 7,513&nbsp;person-months. The number of deaths recorded was 135, for a mortality rate of 17.9/1,000&nbsp;person-months. Risk factors&nbsp;associated with death were malnutrition (HR&nbsp;=&nbsp;17.5; 95%&nbsp;CI&nbsp;=&nbsp;[12.1; 25.4]) and tuberculosis (HR&nbsp;=&nbsp;11.8; 95% CI&nbsp;=&nbsp;[7.7;&nbsp;17.8]). It analyses the changes resulting from the discipline's autonomatization process, involving an investment in some human and social science methods.Purpose of research In a diachronic approach, all dissertations defended in a general medicine department in 1999, 2007 and 2015 were analyzed (N&nbsp;=&nbsp;291). We performed systematic coding of the types of methods used, the areas of research investigated, as well as the supervisors' areas of specialization. We used this coded data to develop a typology of research topics (using a hierarchic classification method based on the coordinates of a principal component analysis). RESULTS Over the period under study, we observed a complexification of medical theses, which increasingly addressed multi-dimensional research topics. We also noted the emergence of new types of subjects, dealing with the exercise of the specialty and close to social science concerns (on the practices and dispositions of healthcare actors). Qualitative methods have been used more and more often, as a result of the increase in the number of theses supervised by GPs. CONCLUSIONS The reform of general medicine has impacted the subjects treated and methods used in theses, and sheds light on the&nbsp;dynamics of the emergence of a new health research field.INTRODUCTION The article aims to characterize the social determinants that define the cancer experience in its plurality, making room for the consideration of socio-economic and ethno-racial inequalities, and discusses territorial entry as a marker of health inequalities. METHODS The analysis retains the qualitative and French aspect of two projects, including a European research project of mixed protocol, and relies on 60 interviews with patients and professionals involved in their care and 100&nbsp;H of in situ observation of care consultations. RESULTS The results are structured around four axes. The first focuses on universal care and health coverage. The second focuses on 'visible minorities,' more present in the city priority neighborhoods (CPN) than in the rural areas, and their invisibilization in oncology. The third part shows that an analysis of the caregivers' interactions with patients must rely on the notion of trust and that they first and foremost come from the 'good reputation' of professionals and institutions. Finally, the fourth part puts into perspective the gendered contours of the trajectory of illness and social support. CONCLUSION The article highlights the mechanisms of production of health inequalities in a context of desertification. It shows that these inequalities remain embedded in a system of territorial, socio-economic and racial segregation that reinforces the feelings of discrimination of cancer patients.Purpose of research The purpose of this research was to promote the involvement and intervention of patient-partners (PPs) in collective sessions of therapeutic patient education (TPE), including training and support for the implementation of these sessions, in co-facilitation with a health professional (HP). Therefore, the matter was to co-construct a training model, to experiment with its implementation and to define favorable conditions for this collaboration. METHODS Collaborative research oriented by the design, led by a steering committee representative of different categories of stakeholders, which has been spread over 2&nbsp;years, in Paris area and Montpellier, in 4&nbsp;phases 1/&nbsp;exploration (bibliographic review and investigation); 2/&nbsp;recruitment of PPs affected by different pathologies; 3/&nbsp;implementation and evaluation of PPs training in inter-pathology; 4/&nbsp;implementation and evaluation of co-facilitated group sessions. RESULTS 35&nbsp;patients solicited, 24 (69%) included. Of these, 22&nbsp;(92%) completed the training entirely; 17 sessions were conducted in co-facilitation (15&nbsp;planned) for 151&nbsp;patients (150&nbsp;expected). Satisfaction rates for PPs, HPs and patient beneficiaries were very high. CONCLUSIONS This research validated a training model for patient-partners in therapeutic education and identified some conditions that could facilitate their integration into TPE programs.INTRODUCTION A language barrier leads to negative impacts on access and quality of health care for non-French speaking patients. Faced with this problem, professional interpreting services, either with an interpreter physically present, or on the phone, were set up in the private health sector in 2017 in the Pays de la Loire region. These services were inspired by projects launched in 2010 by the Migration Santé Alsace association. The main goal of the study was to evaluate the satisfaction of private sector doctors using the interpreting service during their appointments with non-French speaking patients. METHODS This quantitative, observational and prospective study was conducted in the whole Pays de la Loire region between June 2017 and December&nbsp;2018. The satisfaction was evaluated with an online survey filled in by the doctor at the end of every appointment with an interpreter. RESULTS Results show very good overall satisfaction from the doctors using both physically present and phone interpreters.
