Stressful socio-environmental conditions represent one of the multifactorial determinants, and in view of the centrality of work and employment for human well-being, research on health-adverse psychosocial work environments turned out to be a promising line of scientific inquiry. During the past three decades, respective research focused mainly on three theoretical models of adverse psychosocial work and their measurement in prospective epidemiologic studies, termed "demand-control," "effort-reward imbalance," and "organizational injustice." This report provides a review of current evidence on their associations with depression, based on several systematic reviews and updated by most recent publications. Moreover, it discusses the conceptual and methodological strengths and weaknesses of these associations. In summary, the results of more than 40 cohort studies from a variety of Western modern societies confirm that stressful work in terms of these models is associated with a moderately increased risk of subsequent onset of depression. While this knowledge is considered robust enough to instruct efforts of primary and secondary prevention, several methodological challenges still need to be resolved by future research. We aimed to investigate the neuroendocrinal pathophysiology and its correlation with clinical symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. Methods The present cross-sectional study included 486 inpatients with schizophrenia admitted at a psychiatric hospital in Shanghai within one year, and 154 healthy controls (HC) matched on age and gender. The serum hemoconcentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), and cortisol (COR) were measured via electrochemical luminescence immunoassay. Pathophysiological conversions of neuroendocrine were then associated with gender, age, age at onset, antipsychotic treatment using hierarchical multiple linear regression. Results When compared to HC, the schizophrenia group showed elevated ACTH and COR levels and decreased TT3 and TT4 levels (p's less then 0.05). First-episode patients showed lower TSH and higher FT3 and FT4 (p's less then 0.05) compared to recurrent patients. Female patients showed higher TSH and lower TT3, FT3, and ACTH levels (p's less then 0.05) compared to males. Conclusions Decreased TT3 and TT4 and elevated ACTH and COR levels appear to be associated with schizophrenia symptoms. It is a heterogeneous disorder in terms of clinical presentation that is probably due to the frequent occurrence of comorbidity. Children with ADHD more frequently report sleep disorders (notably delayed sleep phase syndrome) and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) than typically developing children. The aim of this article is to propose a narrative review of the assessment of EDS in the context of ADHD with first a summary of the subjective and objective tools used to measure it. Secondly, perspectives in terms of electroencephalogram (EEG) markers and neurofeedback are proposed. Then, possibilities for new kinds of evaluation are discussed (virtual reality, ecological momentary assessment, etc.). Lastly, we discuss specific clinical situations with EDS in the context of ADHD as links with narcolepsy, the comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders, and the context of sluggish cognitive tempo. Incomplete repair of TII during AKI could lead to the development of chronic kidney disease. Changes in albumin endocytosis in proximal tubule epithelial cells (PTECs) is linked to the development of TII. In this context, interleukin (IL)-4 has been shown to be an important factor in modulating recovery of TII. We have studied the possible role of IL-4 in TII induced by albumin overload. A subclinical AKI model characterized by albumin overload in the proximal tubule was used, without changing glomerular function. Four groups were generated (1) CONT, wild-type mice treated with saline; (2) BSA, wild-type mice treated with 10 g/kg/day bovine serum albumin (BSA); (3) KO, IL4Rα-/- mice treated with saline; and (4) KO + BSA, IL4Rα-/- mice treated with BSA. As reported previously, mice in the BSA group developed TII without changes in glomerular function. The following parameters were increased in the KO + BSA group compared with the BSA group (1) tubular injury score; (2) urinary γ-glutamyltransferase; (3) CD4+ T cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, and neutrophils are associated with increases in renal IL-6, IL-17, and transforming growth factor β.
