SCNP-treated rats had a healthy body weight, with normal values for liver weight and liver index, as well as significant improvements in liver functions, inflammatory indicators, antioxidant pathway activation, and lipid peroxidation reduction. They have a good ionic conductivity, which is beneficial for various photo-catalyzed reactions. Here, we synthesized ultra-thin nanosheets of two different Aurivillius oxides, Bi2WO6 (BWO) and Bi2MoO6 (BMO), by using a hard-template process. All materials were characterized through XRD, TEM, FTIR, TGA/DSC, DLS/ELS, DRS, UV-Vis. Band gap material (Eg) and potential of the valence band (EVB) were calculated for BWO and BMO. In contrast to previous reports on the use of multi composite materials, a new procedure for photocatalytic efficient BMO nanosheets was developed. The procedure, with an additional step only, avoids the use of composite materials, improves crystal structure, and strongly reduces impurities. BWO and BMO were used as photocatalysts for the degradation of the water pollutant dye malachite green (MG). MG removal kinetics was fitted with Langmuir-Hinshelwood model obtaining a kinetic constant k = 7.81 × 10-2 min-1 for BWO and k = 9.27 × 10-2 min-1 for BMO. Photocatalytic dye degradation was highly effective, reaching 89% and 91% MG removal for BWO and BMO, respectively. A control experiment, carried out in the absence of light, allowed to quantify the contribution of adsorption to MG removal process. Adsorption contributed to MG removal by a 51% for BWO and only by a 19% for BMO, suggesting a different degradation mechanism for the two photocatalysts. The advanced MG degradation process due to BMO is likely caused by the high crystallinity of the material synthetized with the new procedure. Reuse tests demonstrated that both photocatalysts are highly active and stable reaching a MG removal up to 95% at the 10th reaction cycle. These results demonstrate that BMO nanosheets, synthesized with an easy additional step, achieved the best degradation performance, and can be successfully used for environmental remediation applications.Variable domains of camelid antibodies (so-called nanobodies or VHH) are the smallest antibody fragments that retain complete functionality and therapeutic potential. Understanding of the nanobody-binding interface has become a pre-requisite for rational antibody design and engineering. The nanobody-binding interface consists of up to three hypervariable loops, known as the CDR loops. Here, we structurally and dynamically characterize the conformational diversity of an anti-GFP-binding nanobody by using molecular dynamics simulations in combination with experimentally derived data from nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The NMR data contain both structural and dynamic information resolved at various timescales, which allows an assessment of the quality of protein MD simulations. Thus, in this study, we compared the ensembles for the anti-GFP-binding nanobody obtained from MD simulations with results from NMR. We find excellent agreement of the NOE-derived distance maps obtained from NMR and MD simulations and observe similar conformational spaces for the simulations with and without NOE time-averaged restraints. We also compare the measured and calculated order parameters and find generally good agreement for the motions observed in the ps-ns timescale, in particular for the CDR3 loop. However, few studies have compared the photoprotection mechanism of tree species at different successional stages in these two environments, although such studies would be helpful in understanding the succession of forest communities in subtropical forests. In order to explore the strategies used by dominant species at different successional stages to cope with these two environmental conditions, we selected two dominant species in the mid-successional stage, Schima superba and Castanopsis chinensis, and two dominant species in the late-successional stage, Machilus chinensis and Cryptocarya chinensis. The cell membrane permeability, chlorophyll fluorescence, chlorophyll content, and a few light-protective substances of these dominant species were measured in summer and winter. The results show that in summer, the young leaves of dominant species in the mid-successty of trees in the late-successional stage mainly came from an increased antioxidative compounds and heat dissipation. In winter, the dominant species in the mid-successional stage maintained their photoprotective ability mainly through the scavenging of reactive oxygen species by CAT and the heat dissipation provided by NPQ, while those in the late-successional stage were mainly protected by a combination of processes, including light shielding, heat dissipation, and antioxidant effects provided by enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant systems. In conclusion, our study partially explains the mechanism of community succession in subtropical forests.Future climate scenarios suggest that crop plants will experience environmental changes capable of affecting their productivity. Among the most harmful environmental stresses is drought, defined as a total or partial lack of water availability. It is essential to study and understand both the damage caused by drought on crop plants and the mechanisms implemented to tolerate the stress. In this study, we focused on four cultivars of tomato, an economically important crop in the Mediterranean basin. We investigated the biochemical mechanisms of plant defense against drought by focusing on proteins specifically involved in this stress, such as osmotin, dehydrin, and aquaporin, and on proteins involved in the general stress response, such as HSP70 and cyclophilins. Since sugars are also known to act as osmoprotectants in plant cells, proteins involved in sugar metabolism (such as RuBisCO and sucrose synthase) were also analyzed. The results show crucial differences in biochemical behavior among the selected cultivars and highlight that the most tolerant tomato cultivars adopt quite specific biochemical strategies such as different accumulations of aquaporins and osmotins. The data set also suggests that RuBisCO isoforms and aquaporins can be used as markers of tolerance/susceptibility to drought stress and be used to select tomato cultivars within breeding programs.The cardiovascular benefit of statins is well established. However, only 20% of high-risk patients remain adequately adherent after 5 years of treatment. Among reasons for discontinuation, statin associated-muscle pain symptoms are the most prevalent. Aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of high dose atorvastatin on skeletal muscle mitochondrial activity, aerobic and anaerobic exercise, and axonal excitability in a murine model of atherosclerosis. ApoE-/- mice were fed 12 weeks a high-fat high-cholesterol diet alone or containing atorvastatin (40 mg/Kg/day). Outcomes were the evaluation of muscle mitochondrial functionality, locomotion, grip test, and axonal excitability (compound action potential recording analysis of Aα motor propioceptive, Aβ mechanoceptive and C nociceptive fibres). Atorvastatin led to a reduction in muscle mitochondrial biogenesis and mitochondrial ATP production. It did not affect muscular strength but led to a time-dependent motor impairment. Atorvastatin altered the responsiveness of mechanoceptive and nociceptive fibres, respectively, the Aβ and C fibres. These findings point out to a mild sensitization on mechanical, tactile and pain sensitivity. In conclusion, although the prevalence of muscular side effects from statins may be overestimated, understanding of the underlying mechanisms can help improve the therapeutic approach and reassure adherence in patients needing-to-be-treated.
