A positive correlation was found between the total number of MPs and the density of dead vegetation, indicating that degraded environments are more susceptible to MP accumulation. Thus, our data suggest that MPs are widely distributed and associated with lower hydrodynamism (basin region), less preserved vegetation and urban activities.Rare and endangered plants (REPs) act as key indicators for species habitat priorities, and can thus be critical in global biodiversity protection work. Human activities and climate change pose great threats to REPs, so protection should be a top priority. In this study, we used the maximum entropy model (Maxent) to identify current and future (2050) potential habitats of REPs in the Xishuangbanna tropical area of China. We compared potential habitats with existing protected areas (PAs) in gap analysis, and used a transfer matrix to quantify changes in potential habitats. By comparing the potential distribution obtained with existing land use and land cover, we analyzed the impact of human-dominated land use changes on potential habitats of REPs and identified the main habitat patch types of REPs. The results showed that the current potential habitat area of hotspots is 2989.85 km2, which will be reduced to 247.93 km2 by 2050, accounting for 15.60% and 1.29% of the total research area, respectively. Analysis of land use and land cover showed that rubber plantation was the human-dominated land use posing the greatest threat to potential habitats of REPs, occupying 23.40% and 21.62% of current and future potential habitats, respectively. Monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest was identified as the main habitat patch type for REPs in Xishuangbanna and occupied the highest proportion of potential habitat area. Gap analysis showed that only 35.85% of habitat hotspots are currently included in existing PAs and that this will decrease to 32.26% by 2050. This emphasizes the importance of protecting current and future potential habitats of REPs in a dynamic conservation approach that can adapt to changes in future climate and human activities.Radon (222Rn) is a natural radioactive tracer widely utilized to evaluate water exchange and mixing processes; however, minimal studies have investigated the 222Rn distribution in the Yellow-Bohai Sea (YBS) and its behavior is poorly understood. In this study, the seasonal distribution of 222Rn in the YBS was investigated. The results found that the 222Rn distribution in surface waters is significantly affected by rivers, while 222Rn activity in bottom waters is highly affected by submarine groundwater discharge. The eddy diffusivity and advection velocities of the YBS were obtained utilizing an improved 1D steady-state 222Rn diffusion-advection model. The average horizontal eddy diffusivities in the wet (August 2015) and dry (November 2014) seasons were 4.54 × 108 and 2.28 × 108 cm2 s-1 in dry season, respectively and the average vertical eddy diffusivity was 4.99 cm2 s-1. The dissolved inorganic nutrient (N, P, and Si) and dissolved inorganic carbon flux outputs from vertical eddy diffusion were determined to be 4.85, 0.29, 3.59, and 61.6 mmol m-2 d-1, respectively. These results demonstrate that eddy diffusion tracing in coastal ocean is conducive to interpreting water mixing processes and can be utilized to understand offshore nutrient and carbon transport better.Psychological disorders due to the COVID-19 pandemic have increased the consumption of psychiatric pharmaceuticals on a global scale in last year. These compounds reach wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) through sewerage system and are not sufficiently removed by using conventional treatment process. Psychiatric drugs released with WWTP effluent may cause possible risks to the receiving aquatic environment. Also, two antidepressants have been included in the "watch list" in 2020. Therefore, simple and relatively cost effective removal of psychiatric drugs from wastewaters becomes important. Magnetite red mud nanoparticles (RM-NPs) synthesized was applied for the removal of psychiatric drugs (fluoxetine, paroxetine, carbamazepine, diazepam, and lorazepam) in WWTP effluent first time in this study. The adsorption of carbamazepine as a model compound was fitted well with pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Freundlich isotherm model better represented the sorption data than the Langmuir model. High adsorption capacity (90.5 mg/g) was reached at 30 min contact time at pH 6.5-7.0 at 25 °C. The adsorption rate was described by the pseudo second order model and its rate control mechanism was controlled by film diffusion. The magnetite RM-NPs were efficiently used for the removal of carbamazepine from real WWTP effluents. The adsorption capacity and the magnetic separability of the regenerated magnetite RM-NPs were unaffected five cycles. This study explored the geochemical fractionation and vertical transfer of Tl in a soil profile (200 cm) from a representative Tl-As mineralized area, Southwest China. The results showed that the soils were heavily enriched by Tl and As, with concentration ranging from 3.91-17.3 and 1830-8840 mg/kg (6.79 and 2973 mg/kg in average), respectively. Approximately 50% of Tl occurred in geochemically mobile fractions in the topsoil, wherein the reducible fraction was the most enriched fraction. Further characterization using LA-ICP-MS and TEM revealed that enriched Tl and As in soils were mainly inherited from the weathering of mine tailing piles upstream. XPS characterization indicated that Fe oxides herein may play a critical role in the oxidation of Tl(I) to Tl(III) which provoked further adsorption of Tl onto Fe oxides, thereby facilitating Tl enrichment in the reducible fraction. The findings highlight that the pivotal role of Fe oxides from mineralized area in the co-mobility and migration of Tl and As in the depth profile.
