A lack of effective treatment for lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) makes it an important factor restricting the 5-year survival rate of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Long non-coding RNA 00668 (LINC00668) was reported to play crucial regulatory roles in the tumorigenesis and progression of various cancers; however, its role in LUSC is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognosis value and biological function of LINC00668 in NSCLC, especially in LUSC.
The expression pattern of LINC00668 and its relationship with clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients were investigated in the NSCLC especially LUSC based on The Cancer Genome Altas (TCGA) database. Its function in LUSC cells was explored in vitro.
LINC00668 expression was significantly up-regulated in LUSC patients and high expression level of LINC00668 was associated with advanced tumor-node-metastasis (TMN) stage. Moreover, the expression of LINC00668 significantly increased in smoking patients, and was a prognostic indicator for overall survival (OS) of smoking patients with LUSC. In vitro experiments showed that LINC00668 has significantly higher expression level in LUSC cell lines and tissues compared to normal bronchial epithelial cell and para-tumor tissues; meanwhile, functional assay indicated knockdown of LINC00668 effectively inhibited the migration and invasion of LUSC cells.

Its presence in our patient with subacute liver disease also prompted us to suspect Wilson's disease and we extended the liver disease screen to include slit lamp eye examination for Kayser-Fleischer rings, serum ceruloplasmin and 24-hour urinary copper level, which led to the diagnosis. She improved clinically and biochemically with zinc acetate therapy. As screening for rare diseases is not always possible in low-income countries, this case demonstrates the usefulness of the basic LFT as a guide for suspecting Wilson's disease in patients with liver disease.
Ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) is one of the most lethal types of ovarian cancer. Early-stage OCCC can be cured by surgery; however, advanced-stage disease shows poor prognosis due to chemoresistance unlike the more common high-grade serous carcinoma.
We explored the differential roles of the Wip1-p38-p53 DNA damage response pathway in respective early- or advanced-stage OCCC by immunohistochemistry of Wip1, phospho-p38, p53, and phospho-p53 from consecutive 143 patients.
High Wip1 expression correlated with positive p53 (p=0.011), which in turn correlated with low nuclear phospho-p38 expression (p=0.0094). In the early stages, positive p53 showed trends toward worse overall survival (OS) (p=0.062), whereas in the advanced stages, high Wip1 correlated with worse OS (p=0.0012). The univariate and multivariate analyses of prognostic factors indicated that high Wip1 was significant and independent for worse OS (p=0.011) in the advanced stages, but not in the early stages. Additionally, high Wip1 showed trends toward shorter treatment-free interval (TFI) in the advanced stages, but not in the early stages (p=0.083 vs. 0.93). Furthermore, high Wip1 was significantly associated with positive p53 only in the patients with shorter TFI (<6 months), but not in those with longer TFI (≥6 months) (p=0.036 vs. 0.34).
Wip1 appears to play a crucial role for the prognosis of OCCC through chemoresistance specifically in the advanced stages, implicating that Wip1 possibly serves as a reasonable therapeutic target for improving chemoresistance and poor prognosis of advanced-stage OCCC.

This review systematically summarizes gene biology features and protein structure of nucleoplasmin2 (NPM2) and the relationship between NPM2 and malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM), in order to explore the molecular pathological mechanism of MPM and explore new therapeutic targets.
NCBI PubMed database was used for the literature search. NCBI Gene and Protein databases, Ensembl Genome Browser, UniProt, and RCSB PDB database were used for gene and protein review. Three online tools (Consurf, DoGSiteScorer, and ZdockServer), the GEPIA database, and the Cancer Genome Atlas were used to analyze bioinformatics characteristics for NPM2 protein.
The main structural domains of NPM2 protein include the N-terminal core region, acidic region, and motif and disordered region. The N-terminal core region, involved in histone binding, is the most conserved domain in the nucleoplasmin (NPM) family. NPM2 with a large acidic tract in its C-terminal tail (NPM2-A2) is able to bind histones and form large complexes. Bioinformatics results indicated that NPM2 expression was correlated with the pathology of multiple tumors. Among mesothelioma patients, 5-year survival of patients with low-NPM2-expression was significantly higher than that of the high-NPM2-expression patients. NPM2 can facilitate the formation of histone deacetylation. NPM2 may promote histone deacetylation and inhibit the related-gene transcription, thus leading to abnormal proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of MPM.

We report the case of a 29-year-old Indian female diagnosed to have gastrointestinal stromal tumor originating from the greater curvature of the stomach. Gastrointestinal stromal tumor was wild type, negative for c-kit and platelet-derived growth factor receptor, and had an aggressive clinical course not responding to oral tyrosine kinase inhibitors. On later evaluation, we found that the patient had germline mutation in NF1. This case has some unusual features compared with gastrointestinal stromal tumor cases reported in n and cutaneous stigmata of neurofibromatosis. Our patient had unicentric gastrointestinal stromal tumor occurring at younger age and involving greater curvature of the stomach, with spindle cell type histology and high-risk features. If gastrointestinal stromal tumor occurs at young age, we should look into neurocutaneous markers.

This review discusses the risk factors associated with surgical site infection.
The patient-related factors include sex, age, body mass index (BMI), obesity, nutritional status, comorbidities, primary diagnosis, living habits, and scores of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification system, etc. Surgery-related factors involve preoperative skin preparation, prolonged duration of surgery, one-stage bilateral joint replacement surgery, blood loss, glove changes, anti-microbial prophylaxis, topical anti-bacterial preparations, wound management, postoperative hematoma, etc. Those risk factors are detailed in the review.

Expatriates working in low-and middle-income countries have unique health problems. Migration leads not only to an increase in individual health risk but also a risk of global impact, such as pandemics. Expatriates with no prior experience living in tropical settings have expressed greatest concern about infectious diseases and appropriate peri-travel consultation is essential to expatriates. The objective of this review is to describe infections and travel-related syndromes among expatriates living in low-and middle-income countries.
MEDLINE database since the year 2000 was searched for relevant literature. Search terms were "long-term travel", "expatriate", and "health problems". The additional references were obtained from hand-searching of selected articles.
