These results show that Dleu2 is capable of successful modulation across alternative splicing transcripts that can be screened, and also that Resveratrol can be a potential nutraceutical, which may potentially lead to novel approaches in the use of lncRNA Dleu2 for diagnostics and regulation.Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the leading cause of liver disease in adolescents and adults, and the risk of developing NAFLD increases with obesity. In the present study, it was shown that obesity increased fatty liver (steatosis) using an obese Zucker rat model. Metformin is an oral anti-hyperglycemic agent approved by the FDA for treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults and children >10 years of age. There is insufficient evidence regarding the effects of metformin on pediatric liver steatosis. Thus, in the present study, the effects of 10 weeks metformin treatment on liver steatosis and related serum markers for liver damage was assessed. Lean and obese (n=16 per group) 5-week old female Zucker rats were provided an AIN-93 G diet for 8 weeks to induce NAFLD, and then rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups (8 rats/group) i) lean without metformin (LC), ii) lean + metformin (LM), iii) obese without metformin (OC), and iv) obese + metformin (OM). Rats were provided ad libitum access to the diet sed liver steatosis but did not affect the serum markers of liver steatosis.Liver fibrosis is a dynamic condition caused by wound-healing in which scar tissue replaces the liver parenchyma following repetitive injuries. It is hypothesized that α-mangostin (AM), the major constituent of the xanthone fraction in extracts of Garcinia mangostana L., may protect the hepatic microvascular bed from thioacetamide (TAA)-induced fibrosis. In the present study, rats were divided into 4 groups Control rats received no treatment; TAA-treated rats received 150 mg/kg TAA 3 times per week intraperitoneally; AM-treated rats received 75 mg/kg AM twice per week intraperitoneally; and TAA+AM-treated rats received both TAA and AM as described above. Rat livers were processed either for light microscopy or for vascular corrosion casting after 30 and 60 days of treatment. Vascular parameters were measured by 3D morphometry analysis of scanning electron micrographs. AM attenuated hepatocellular injuries and delayed both periportal and pericentral fibrosis in the TAA-treated rats. The comparison of findings at day 30 and 60 showed that TAA-induced fibrotic changes were progressive in time, and that the beneficial effects of AM only became apparent after prolonged treatment. The livers of rats treated with both TAA and AM had less space surrounding the portal vessels, improved preservation of the hepatic microvascular pattern, and minimally altered sinusoidal patterns with few signs of terminal portal venule remodeling. AM therefore partially protected the liver against hepatotoxin-induced fibrosis and the associated microvascular changes. The mechanism of the protective effect of AM on the liver remains to be investigated.Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen is an extremely rare benign lesion. It originates from the spleen's red pulp; however, its pathogenesis is not clearly defined. These tumors are usually asymptomatic or cause nonspecific abdominal symptoms. Most SANTs are found incidentally on radiographic examination or during surgery for an unrelated condition. The differential diagnosis from other splenic tumors or malignant lesions can be challenging due to the risk for a possible malignancy of the suspicious lesion. As more SANTs are being discovered and treated, they should always be considered in the differential. We present the case of an otherwise healthy 30-year-old female; she presented with abdominal pain and a mass in her spleen. Surgery was performed, and an SANT was discovered. The patient underwent full recovery, and on follow-up is doing well.This is a case series of five patients with acute abdomen requiring surgery who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and were asymptomatic, with the purpose of detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in peritoneal fluid. Nasopharyngeal swab was done as a prerequisite for admission or prior to admission as part of random testing. Two methods of viral testing were employed Xpert® Xpress SARS-CoV-2 (rapid test) and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Either or both tests were done, with the former performed for patients requiring surgery immediately. Surgery was performed within 24-36 h from admission. Peritoneal fluid swabs were obtained for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 using RT-PCR test. Swabs were immediately placed in viral transfer media and delivered to the public health laboratory in an ice bag. SARS-CoV-2 was not detected in peritoneal swabs. Due to the limited number of patients, further studies are required; yet, protective measures should still be taken by surgeons when dealing with COVID-19 cases.A 79-year-old man was referred to our hospital for further examination. He had undergone radical esophagectomy with right thoracotomy 9 years ago. Four cycles of chemotherapy (CDDP +5-FU) were also performed for him. Eight years after esophagectomy, two nodules were identified in the upper lobe of the right lung on chest computed tomography (CT). Owing to the possibility of new primary lung cancer, partial resection was performed. Histopathological examination revealed squamous cell carcinoma. One year and two months later, follow-up chest CT scan revealed a nodule shadow of 1.5 cm in the left apex and a nodule shadow of 0.9 cm below the S9 pleura. Hence, partial left lung resection was performed. Five months after left lung resection, a metastatic liver tumor was found on abdominal CT and left lobectomy of the liver was performed. Herein, we present and discuss the rare case of an iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis precipitated by a fenestrated left common iliac vein.A cross-sectional study design was employed on collected sera samples to investigate brucellosis in small ruminants from December 2018 to November 2019 with the objectives of estimating the seroprevalence and potential risk factors for the occurrence of brucellosis in small ruminants in selected districts of West Hararghe Chiro, Hirna, and Mieso. A total of 2070 collected sera samples from small ruminants were tested using serological tests and screened by RBPT and confirmatory test (CFT). The overall seroprevalence of the present study was 0.24% in small ruminants (Chiro 0.2%, Hirna 0%, and Mieso 0.3%). The chi-square test (Stat 14.0) was used to determine the strength of potential risk factors associated with the occurrence of brucellosis by using univariable logistic regression. Mixed flock (OR = 2.11 (1.33-3.36 CI; P=0.002)), agropastoral (OR = 4.01 (2.35-6.84 CI; P=0.0001)) and pastoral (OR = 2.59 (1.37-4.90 CI; P=0004)) production system, and larger flock size (OR = 1.68 (1.08-2.60 CI; P=0.021) were factors significantly affecting the prevalence of small ruminant brucellosis. Univariable analysis was used, and independent predictors of small ruminant brucellosis were further analyzed using multilogistic regression. This disease was presented in the current study area; therefore, the careful separation of positive animals would help to prevent and control further distribution of the disease.This study aims to determine the effect of laser puncture shooting on the reproductive acupuncture points of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) egg quantity (egg production) and internal egg quality (Haugh unit, yolk index, and yolk colour). This research was conducted for 30 days using a sample of Japanese quail aged 4 weeks because for the first 2 weeks, the quail did not produce and it was in production in the last 2 weeks. There were 4 treatments and 25 replications each. So, there were a total of 100 quails. Laser puncture shooting was carried out at 3-day intervals at the Ova point and 6-day intervals at Hu Men, Bei Ji, and Wei Gen points. So, on the first day, laser puncture shooting was carried out at 4 points, on the 4th day, only at 1 point, and then, on the 7th day, it returned to 4 points. And so, it was carried out for 4 weeks. T0 (-) was considered as a negative control because quails are not given laser puncture shooting; T0 (+) was considered as a positive control because quails are treated with laser puncture shooting which is deactivated or a dose of 0 Joule; T1 was a group treated with laser puncture shooting at a dose of 0.2 Joule, and T2 was a group treated with laser puncture shooting at a dose of 0.5 Joule. Then, the research results were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test.
