The frequency of the rs17576 A allele was significantly lower in sICAS patients when compared to the normal controls (p = 0.03, OR [95% CI] = 0.75 [0.625-0.91]). Also, the frequency of the rs17576 genotypes was significantly different under codominant (p = 0.009), dominant (p = 0.014), and recessive (p= 0.023) models. The frequency of the rs17576 A allele was significantly higher in sICAS with WMH patients, compared to those without WMHs (p = 0.022, OR [95% CI] = 1.54 [1.06-2.22]); the frequency of the rs17576 genotypes was significantly different under codominant (p = 0.019) and recessive (p = 0.032) models. Logistic regression analysis showed that age, hypertension, and MMP9 rs17576 AA genotype were independent risk factors for sICAS with WMHs.

Here, we present the case of a 32-year-old female with a progressing history of meningioma for 16 years starting with an ethmoidal lesion in 2002. The initial tumor specimen of this patient showed a deletion of the short arm of chromosome 1 through a translocation between chromosomes 1 and 11 (t[1; 11]) as well as additional chromosomal aberrations, including partial or complete monosomy of chromosomes 2, 6, 7, 11, 13, and 22. These molecular characteristics were already known to be associated with an aggressive course of the disease, and the patient was, therefore, included in a strict follow-up regime. From 2003 to 2019, the patient suffered multiple relapses and consecutive tumor resections.

Short-term, indoor exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is still highly prevalent; however, little is known about the acute lung response in adult asthma.
We investigated whether acute, experimental ETS exposure influences symptoms, lung function, and inflammatory parameters.
Human subjects with asthma (n = 23) were exposed for 180 min to either room air or ETS at 250, 450, or 850 µg/m3. Respiratory symptoms, lung function, and exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) were measured. Additionally, blood samples were analyzed for pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines.
Humans with asthma demonstrate an increase in respiratory symptoms at all levels of ETS exposure, while the forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and FeNO decrease with increasing ETS. The anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-10 increases at intermediate ETS concentrations, whereas tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and IL-8 increase only at the highest ETS concentration.

Although severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection is causing mortality in considerable proportion of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients, however, evidence for the association of sex, age, and comorbidities on the risk of mortality is not well-aggregated yet. It was aimed to assess the association of sex, age, and comorbidities with mortality in COVID-2019 patients.
Literatures were searched using different keywords in various databases. Relative risks (RRs) were calculated by RevMan software where statistical significance was set as p < 0.05.
COVID-19 male patients were associated with significantly increased risk of mortality compared to females (RR 1.86 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.67-2.07; p < 0.00001). Patients with age ≥50 years were associated with 15.4-folds significantly increased risk of mortality compared to patients with age <50 years (RR 15.44 95% CI 13.02-18.31; p < 0.00001). Comorbidities were also associated with significantly increased risk of mortality; kidney disease (RR 4.
