501 with an enhanced Abbe number as high as 48.6, much higher than the corresponding polycarbonates or polythiocarbonates. Additionally, all terpolymers containing varying thiocarbonate content displayed good thermal properties with Tg >109 °C and Td >260 °C, suggesting little loss in the thermal stability compared to the polycarbonate. Hence, modification of the topological structure of the polycarbonate is an efficient method of obtaining polymeric materials with enhanced optical properties without compromising thermal performance.Diffuse plane xanthomas (DPX) is a rare, chronic, metabolic skin disease which can seriously affect the appearance of the patients and result in psychological problems. Existing treatments are seriously limited. Our objective was to assess the efficacy of and tolerance to simvastatin ointment for the treatment of skin lesions in seven DPX patients. In this study, patients were treated twice daily on the right side of the lesions for 10 months with the 1% or 5% simvastatin ointment. Meanwhile, the left body was untreated as a contralateral controlled side. Efficacy was assessed via the change of rash and was further confirmed by histological study. For all seven participants, both the 1% and 5% simvastatin ointments were effective. The histological change in DPX showed significant decrease of foam cells in skin lesions. The immunohistochemical staining of CD68, macrophage scavenger receptor type 1, oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 and Oil Red O became obviously reduced after treatment. The test medicines were safe with only some skin-related side-effects. This is the first research reported on simvastatin ointment treatment in DPX. Our results are the first to suggest that simvastatin ointment is effective in improving skin lesions of DPX clinically and histopathologically. The current COVID-19 pandemic is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The initial recognized symptoms were respiratory, sometimes culminating in severe respiratory distress requiring ventilation, and causing death in a percentage of those infected. As time has passed, other symptoms have been recognized. The initial reports of cutaneous manifestations were from Italian dermatologists, probably because Italy was the first European country to be heavily affected by the pandemic. The overall clinical presentation, course and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children differ from those in adults as do the cutaneous manifestations of childhood. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on the cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19 in children after thorough and critical review of articles published in the literature and from the personal experience of a large panel of paediatric dermatologists in Europe. Temsirolimus supplier In Part 1, we discuss one of the first and most widespread cutaneous manifestation of COVID-19, chilblain-like lesions. In Part 2, we review other manifestations, including erythema multiforme, urticaria and Kawasaki disease-like inflammatory multisystemic syndrome, while in Part 3, we discuss the histological findings of COVID-19 manifestations, and the testing and management of infected children, for both COVID-19 and any other pre-existing conditions.Synthetic vaccines, based on antigenic peptides that comprise MHC-I and MHC-II T-cell epitopes expressed by tumors, show great promise for the immunotherapy of cancer. For optimal immunogenicity, the synthetic peptides (SPs) should be adjuvanted with suitable immunostimulatory additives. Previously, we have shown that improved immunogenicity in vivo is obtained with vaccine modalities in which an SP is covalently connected to an adjuvanting moiety, typically a ligand to Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2). SPs were covalently attached to UPam, which is a derivative of the classic TLR2 ligand Pam3 CysSK4 . A disadvantage of the triply palmitoylated UPam is its high lipophilicity, which precludes universal adoption of this adjuvant for covalent modification of various antigenic peptides as it renders the synthetic vaccine insoluble in several cases. Here, we report a novel conjugatable TLR2 ligand, mini-UPam, which contains only one palmitoyl chain, rather than three, and therefore has less impact on the solubility and other physicochemical properties of a synthetic peptide. In this study, we used SPs that contain the clinically relevant neoepitopes identified in a melanoma patient who completely recovered after T-cell therapy. Homogeneous mini-UPam-SP conjugates have been prepared in good yields by stepwise solid-phase synthesis that employed a mini-UPam building block pre-prepared in solution and the standard set of Fmoc-amino acids. The immunogenicity of the novel mini-UPam-SP conjugates was demonstrated by using the cancer patient's T-cells.
Conventional freehand immediate placement of dental implants is technically challenging in the jaw reconstructive surgery. Computer-aided surgery might be the best solution, however, there has not been any standard approach to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of simultaneous dental implants in fibula flap jaw reconstruction.
We aim to evaluate the clinical outcome of simultaneous dental implant in fibula flap using the "three-in-one" patient-specific surgical guide (3-in-1-PSSG) in an open-label, prospective, single-arm, and single-center clinical trial.
A novel computer-aided designed and three-dimensional (3D) printed 3-in-1-PSSG, which contains functions of fibula segmentation, surgical plate positioning and implant placement, was used to facilitate the reconstructive surgery and simultaneous dental implant placement. The intraoperative success of dental implant placement, implant survival rate and accuracy of dental implant placement were reported.
From November 2018 to June 2020, 15 consecutiveD printed 3-in-1-PSSG facilitated simultaneous dental implant in fibula flap jaw reconstruction with a favorable intraoperative success and short-term clinical outcome. It might be a viable alternative to allow one-step immediate oral rehabilitation in patients underwent jaw reconstruction with free flaps. Long-term results with a larger sample size are warranted.
