5% of MM cases had no pre-existing medical condition, 62.3% had frequent adherence to antenatal care, and 52.5% had emergency caesarean sections.
In Georgia, direct causes of maternal death exceed indirect causes in MM cases, with haemorrhage and infections, respectively, being most common. These findings are important to ensure optimal and continuous care and to accelerate progress in the reduction of MM in the country.

Currently, eight species within the genus are retained as valid. In Italy no identification of Giardia species other than Giardia duodenalis has been so far reported. Fecal samples were collected from two Günther's Voles (Microtus guentheri) positive to Giardia cysts by microscopic investigation and immunofluorescence. The voles were born in Milan (Northern Italy) from two gravid females imported from the Netherlands and kept for sale in a pet shop in Varese (Northern Italy). Positive feces were subjected to a nested PCR to amplify a 18S rRNA fragment for molecular characterization. A phylogenetic analysis was conducted to compare the obtained sequence with those of all other Giardia species available in GenBank for the 18S locus, using the Maximum Likelihood (ML) method by R software. Sequence analyses unambiguously identified the isolates as belonging to G. microti, showing 99% of identity with those of its isolates available in GenBank. A well-defined cluster, supported by significant bootstrap values and corresponding to the G. microti cluster, including sequences obtained from M. guentheri, was evidenced in the ML tree, confirming species assignment. The present finding represents the first report of G. microti from pet animals in Italy.Almost from all organs, both mesenchymal stromal cells and fibroblasts can be isolated. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are the most preferred cellular therapeutic agents with the regenerative potential, and fibroblasts are one of the most abundant cell types with the ability to maintain homeostasis. Because of the promising properties of MSCs, they have been well studied and their differentiation potentials, immunomodulatory potentials, gene expression profiles are identified. It has been observed that fibroblasts and mesenchymal stromal cells have similar morphology, gene expression patterns, surface markers, proliferation, differentiation, and immunomodulatory capacities. Thus, it is hard to distinguish these two cell types. Epigenetic signatures, i.e., methylation patterns of cells, are the only usable promising difference between them. selleck kinase inhibitor Such significant similarities show that these two cells may be related to each other.
To evaluate the association of intraoperative and postoperative subconjunctival injections of mitomycin C (MMC) and rate of the hypertensive phase after implantation of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV).
Comparative case series.
This retrospective comparative study included 37 eyes of 35 patients with uncontrolled glaucoma on maximum tolerated medical therapy who underwent implantation of AGV by a single surgeon.
Consecutive cases operated without the use of MMC from 2015 to 2017 were compared with consecutive cases operated from 2018 to 2019 under a standardized protocol of subconjunctival MMC injections. The MMC group received 0.1 ml of MMC (0.25 mg/ml) injected intraoperatively, at 1 and 4 weeks after the surgery.
Incidence of the hypertensive phase (defined as intraocular pressure [IOP] >21 mmHg during the first 3 postoperative months) was compared across groups. Intraocular pressure and glaucoma medications were also compared during the course of the first 6 postoperative months.
In the MMC and no-MMC groups, 17.6% (3/17) and 55.0% (11/20) of the cases exhibited a hypertensive phase (P= 0.04), respectively. Both groups were comparable in baseline characteristics, including age, preoperative IOP, preoperative glaucoma medications, and previous glaucoma surgeries. At 6 months, mean IOP was 14.0 ± 0.8 mmHg and 14.7 ± 0.9 mmHg for the MMC and no-MMC groups, respectively (P= 0.6). The mean number of glaucoma medications at 6 months was 1.2 ± 0.2 and 2.2 ± 0.3 in the MMC and no-MMC groups, respectively (P= 0.007).
Eyes that underwent implantation of AGV experienced a lower incidence of hypertensive phase and required fewer medications when using a standardized protocol of intraoperative and postoperative subconjunctival MMC injections.

The role of drTopo IB in guanine quadruplex DNA (G4 DNA) metabolism was demonstrated earlier in vitro. Here, we report that D. radiodurans cells lacking drTopo IB (ΔtopoIB) show sensitivity to G4 DNA binding drug (NMM) under normal growth conditions. The activity of G4 motif containing promoters like mutL and recQ was reduced in the presence of NMM in mutant cells. In mutant, the percentage of anucleate cells was more while the copy number of genome elements were less as compared to wild type. Protein-protein interaction studies showed that drTopo IB interacts with genome segregation and DNA replication initiation (DnaA) proteins. The typical patterns of cellular localization of GFP-PprA were affected in the mutant cells. Microscopic examination of D. radiodurans cells expressing drTopo IB-RFP showed its localization on nucleoid forming a streak parallel to the old division septum and perpendicular to newly formed septum. These results together suggest the role of drTopo IB in genome maintenance in this bacterium.
