metabolites among bariatric surgery patients. Future large-scale, longitudinal studies are warranted to investigate gut microbial changes and their associations with metabolic outcomes after bariatric surgery.
The aim of this quasi-experimental study was to develop an anti-embolism stocking care protocol and assess its effectiveness in preventing associated skin problems on the legs.
The study was conducted between 02 March and July 20, 2016 in the surgical clinics of a private university hospital in Ankara, Turkey. The sample consisted of 27 nurses and 162 patients (three different patients were fitted of anti-embolism stockings by each of the 27 nurses; pre-protocol 81 patients and post-protocol 81 patients). Data were collected using data collection forms developed by the researchers. An anti-embolism stocking care protocol was developed and used. Nurses and patients were evaluated using an observational method.
Following implementation of the protocol, nurses' mean knowledge (95.24±5.60) and intervention skill (92.06±10.42) scores were significantly higher than their pre-protocol knowledge (73.54±14.26) and intervention skill (15.30±6.84) scores. Nurses performed almost all steps of the care protocol correctly after the protocol was implemented. The rates of skin problems such as pressure ulcers, neurovascular problems and issues associated with wrinkles or creases in stockings were significantly reduced after implementation of the protocol.
This study demonstrates that nurses' knowledge and intervention skills are increased when a care protocol is used, together with the prevention of errors and improved patient outcomes. The use of care protocols guides nurses in practice, raises awareness and helps to achieve nursing care objectives by standardizing information.

How much the variability in patients' response during in vitro fertilization (IVF) may add to the initial predicted prognosis based only on patients' basal characteristics?
Anonymous data were obtained from the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA). Data involving 114,882 stimulated fresh IVF cycles were retrospectively analyzed. Logistic regression was used to develop the models.
Prediction of live birth was feasible with moderate accuracy in all of the three models; discrimination of the model based only on basal patients' characteristics (AUROC 0.61) was markedly improved adding information of number of embryos (AUROC 0.65) and, mostly, number of oocytes (AUROC 0.66).
The addition to prediction models of parameters such as the number of embryos obtained and especially the number of oocytes retrieved can statistically significantly improve the overall prediction of live birth probabilities when based on only basal patients' characteristics. This seems to be particularly true for women after the first IVF cycle. this website Since ovarian response affects the probability of live birth in IVF, it is highly recommended to add markers of ovarian response to models based on basal characteristics to increase their predictive ability.

The immunogenicity and safety of the sequential schedule of Sabin strain-based inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) and bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) remains poorly understood in Chinese population.
A multi-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial was performed involving 648 healthy infants aged 2months from Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Hebei provinces. These participants were divided into three groups sIPV-bOPV-bOPV, sIPV-sIPV-bOPV, and sIPV-sIPV-sIPV. Doses were administered sequentially at age 2, 3, and 4months. Neutralisation assays were tested using sera collected at 2months and 5months.
A total of 569 were included in the per-protocol analysis. The seroconversion rates of poliovirus type 1 and 3 were 100% in all three groups, the seroconversion rate of poliovirus type 2 was 91.53% (173/189) (95% CI 86.62-95.08) in the sIPV-bOPV-bOPV group, 98.38% (182/185) (95% CI 95.33-99.66) in the sIPV-sIPV-bOPV group, and 99.49% (194/195) (95% CI 97.18-99.99) in the sIPV-sIPV-sIPV group. For the seroconversion rate of poliovirus types 1 and 3, the sIPV-bOPV-bOPV and sIPV-sIPV-bOPV groups were non-inferior to the sIPV-sIPV-sIPV group. For the seroconversion rate of poliovirus type 2, the sIPV-sIPV-bOPV group was non-inferior to the sIPV-sIPV-sIPV group, and the sIPV-bOPV-bOPV group was inferior to the sIPV-sIPV-sIPV group. All three groups exhibited good safety, with two serious adverse events reported, that were unrelated to vaccine.
In china, a new vaccination schedule that including 2 doses of IPV in the national immunization programs is essential. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.govNCT04054492.

Post marketing safety evaluations of quadrivalent meningococcal diphtheria-toxoid conjugate vaccine (MenACWY-D) have focused on post-vaccination risk of Guillain Barré syndrome (GBS), adverse events (AEs) after maternal vaccination, and comparative studies with the newer quadrivalent meningococcal CRM
conjugate vaccine (MenACWY-CRM). To provide an updated general safety assessment, we reviewed reports of AEs following MenACWY-D submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
VAERS is a national spontaneous reporting vaccine safety surveillance system co-administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. We searched the VAERS database for U.S. reports of AEs after administration of MenACWY-D from January 2005 through June 2016. We conducted clinical reviews of serious reports after MenACWY-D administered alone, reports of MenACWY-D use during pregnancy, and reports of selected pre-specified outcomes. We screened for disproportionate reporting of AEs after MenACWY-D using empirical Bayesian data mining.
