rch of changes in sleep patterns and their role in this specific subcategory of cancer-related fatigue caused by the treatment.
Patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer receiving neoadjuvant ADT prior to radiation therapy reported relatively more severe fatigue. Increased fatigue in this population may be attributable to sleep-related impairment associated with alterations in steroid hormone biosynthesis. Findings in this study provide a basis for further research of changes in sleep patterns and their role in this specific subcategory of cancer-related fatigue caused by the treatment.Vascular calcification (VC) increases morbidity and mortality and constitutes a significant obstacle during percutaneous interventions and surgeries. On a cellular and molecular level, VC is a highly regulated process that involves abnormal cell transitions and osteogenic differentiation, re-purposing of signaling pathways normally used in bone, and even formation of osteoclast-like cells. Endothelial cells have been shown to contribute to VC through a variety of means. This includes direct contributions of osteoprogenitor cells generated through endothelial-mesenchymal transitions in activated endothelium, with subsequent migration into the vessel wall. The endothelium also secretes pro-osteogenic growth factors, such as bone morphogenetic proteins, inflammatory mediators and cytokines in conditions like hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and renal failure. High phosphate levels caused by renal disease have deleterious effects on the endothelium, and induction of tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase adds to the calcific process. Furthermore, endothelial activation promotes proteolytic destruction of the internal elastic lamina that serves, among other things, as a stabilizer of the endothelium. Appropriate bone mineralization is highly dependent on active angiogenesis, but it is unclear whether the same relationship exists in VC. Through its location facing the vascular lumen, the endothelium is the first to encounter circulating factor and bone marrow-derived cells that might contribute to osteoclast-like versus osteoblast-like cells in the vascular wall. In the same way, the endothelium may be the easiest target to reach with treatments aimed at limiting calcification. This review provides a brief summary of the contributions of the endothelium to VC as we currently know them.Cellulose from different lignocellulosic biomass can be used to prepare various materials. In this work, the cellulose nanofibrils were produced from hardwood bleached kraft pulp. Then, a novel biosorbent from cellulose nanofibrils grafted with poly(m-aminobenzene sulfonate) (PABS) was prepared for effective detoxification and adsorption of Cr(VI) in an aqueous medium. 6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils (TOCNF) with a high aspect ratio was used as an adsorbent matrix. PABS, an amine-rich conductive polymer, was grafted onto TOCNF via a successive two-step reaction. The analyses of Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the successful grafting reaction between TOCNF and PABS. The biosorbent from TOCNF-bonded PABS with the nitrogen content of 7.0% was synthesized. It exhibited excellent Cr(VI) adsorption capacity at a solution pH below 3, and almost 100% Cr(VI) can be removed. The adsorption of Cr(VI) on the biosorbent was described by a pseudo-second-order model and obeyed the Langmuir model. The Cr(VI) adsorption capacity of the biosorbent from TOCNF-bonded PABS was almost 10 times higher than that of TOCNF. It was interesting to note that part of Cr(VI) ions had been reduced to Cr(III) during the adsorption process. It indicated that the biosorbent from TOCNF grafted with PABS could detoxify and adsorb Cr(VI) synchronously.Surface enhanced hyper Raman scattering (SEHRS) can provide many advantages to probing of biological samples due to unique surface sensitivity and vibrational information complementary to surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). To explore the conditions for an optimum electromagnetic enhancement of SEHRS by dimers of biocompatible gold nanospheres and gold nanorods, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations were carried out for a broad range of excitation wavelengths from the visible through the short-wave infrared (SWIR). The results confirm an important contribution by the enhancement of the intensity of the laser field, due to the two-photon, non-linear excitation of the effect. For excitation laser wavelengths above 1,000 nm, the hyper Raman scattering (HRS) field determines the enhancement in SEHRS significantly, despite its linear contribution, due to resonances of the HRS light with plasmon modes of the gold nanodimers. The high robustness of the SEHRS enhancement across the SWIR wavelength range can compensate for variations in the optical properties of gold nanostructures in real biological environments.Thermal batteries with a high power density and rapid activation time are crucial for improving the fast response ability of sophisticated weapons. In this study, an Ni-NiCl2 composite was prepared via hydrogen reduction and employed as a cathode material. Discharge tests on a battery assembled using the fabricated composite revealed that its initial internal resistance decreased and the activation time reduced. Notably, the Ni-NiCl2 cathode increased the energy output by 47% (from 6.76 to 9.94 Wh in NiCl2 and Ni-NiCl2, respectively) with a cut-off voltage of 25 V; the power density of the novel battery system reached 11.4 kW/kg. The excellent performance of the thermal battery benefited from the high electrode potential and low internal resistance of Ni-NiCl2. This study contributes to the development of high-performance electrode materials for next-generation thermal battery-related technologies. Background Since the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) world pandemic, it has had a significant negative impact on the economy and employment. The orderly resumption of work and production is an important factor in reducing the impact of the COVID-19 and an important guarantee of social and economic stability. The study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of people returning to work about personal protection under the COVID-19 world pandemic. Methods During March 2020, based on WeChat, QQ and other internet platforms, online questionnaire survey was conducted by the convenience sampling method. SPSS version 20.0 (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) was used for statistics analysis. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to analyze the data. Results A total of 302 valid questionnaires was collected, and the valid response rate was 86.7%. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/zcl278.html About knowledge, people who return to work had the highest awareness rate of safe communication distance and the lowest awareness rate of exposure risk levels in different workplaces.
