The βgal's immobilization onto the activated CaP-agar beads also shifted the enzyme's optimal pH from 4.6-5.1 to 3.3-4.9, whereas its optimal temperature was retained at 55 °C. The procured biocatalyst was exploited to efficiently hydrolyze the lactose in whey permeate. One of the characteristic features of obesity is increased body weight and accumulation of adipose tissue. It is associated with low grade inflammation and gut dysbiosis. Probiotics and its products could be an ideal strategy to prevent or treat diabetes. In the present study, animals were induced obesity by providing them with high fat diet. Three purified bacteriocins i.e., DT24, PJ4 and TSU4, previously isolated and purified from various probiotic strains, were given as treatment strategies, following the induction of obesity. Upon the completion of the study, animals were sacrificed and were checked for their tissue expression of inflammatory mediators and adipokines. Serum hormone and cytokines analysis were performed to check their inflammatory state. Treatment with purified bacteriocin DT24 did not show any therapeutic effect in any of the parameter studied. Bacteriocin TSU4 on the other hand showed better reversal compared to DT24. Bacteriocin PJ4 showed the most promising results by reversing all the altered parameters significantly. It significantly reversed all the biochemical, immunological in terms of serum cytokines as well as altered morphological characteristics. PJ4 can be further explored to determine its mode of action. The anti-microbial proteins or to be more specific, bacteriocins, which shows broad spectrum efficacy, could be a better alternative in modulating gut microflora for the treatment of obesity and diabetes characteristics. The efficacy of bacteriocin PJ4 may also be due to the source of the host of Lactobacillus. This study aimed to explore the phylogenetic and molecular characteristics of feline astrovirus. A total of 33 fecal samples of domestic cats with or without diarrhea were collected from the Anhui province, and two positive samples were detected. The complete genome and ORF2 of the two strains were sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed. AH-1-2020 and AH-2-2020 displayed 83.4% homology, and their homologies with other reference strains were 75.3%-83.4% and 83.4%-95.0%, respectively. Phylogenetic tree analysis revealed that all strains could be classified into three different clusters; therefore, the mean amino acid genetic distances (p-dist) among the three clusters were estimated. Telaprevir ic50 The results suggested that the two strains and other FeAstV strains were grouped into three genotypes, with AH-1-2020 belonging to a novel genotype. High similarity was observed (65.9%-66.5% nucleotide identity and 63.8%-64.8% amino acid identity) in ORF2 between porcine astrovirus type 1 and AH-1-2020. Furthermore, inter-specific recombination between porcine astrovirus type 1 and FeAstV was observed. We, therefore, inferred that inter-specific transmission may exist between pigs and cats; however, further studies are required to verify this. This is the first report on the genetic characterization and phylogenetic analysis of FeAstVs in the Anhui province and would further the current understanding of the genetic diversity and epidemiology of FeAstVs.In this study, a four-microorganism three-step fermentation process was established for producing medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoate (mcl-PHA) from starch, which was used as the sole carbon source. The four microorganisms used for this process were Aspergillus niger, Saccharomyces cerevisiae L2612, Acetobacter orientalis, and Pseudomonas putida KT2440-acs. The initial carbon source starch concentration was set to 30 g/L, the maximum glucose concentration reached 17.66 g/L at 48 h after starch hydrolysis, and then, 2.36 g/L of acetic acid was obtained at 96 h. The final output of mcl-PHA was 0.5 g/L at 144 h, overall productivity for mcl-PHA was 3.47 mg/(L·h) and the total starch to mcl-PHA yield for the process was 16.67 mg/g. Although the overall yield and conversion rate of this process were not high, this is the first attempt to produce mcl-PHA using starch as a substrate, and it provides a feasible strategy for producing PHA from kitchen waste. The production process of mcl-PHA with a clear flora structure and short fermentation cycle was realized.Auxins are a class of organic substances known as plant-growth regulators, which act on plant physiology, promoting its full development. However, due to the great instability of these substances among the diversity of crops and cultivation environments, it is necessary to seek more efficient modes of application, which lead to a homogeneous distribution and promote a sustained release according to the plants demand. Seed coating, using films containing a biodegradable polymer and auxins intercalated into layered compounds, emerges as a very promising approach to a new form of growth regulator application. Thus, the presented work had three aims (i) the synthesis and characterization of an organic-inorganic hybrid material containing a layered double hydroxide (LDH) of zinc and aluminum and the synthetic auxin 1-naphthalenoacetic acid (ZnAl-NAA-LDH), (ii) the coating of bean seeds (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) with composite films produced from mixtures of alginate polymer and ZnAl-NAA-LDH, and (iii) the evaluation of the plant response by bioassays. The hybrid ZnAl-NAA-LDH was characterized by a set of analytical techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis coupled to differential scanning calorimetry and mass spectrometry, specific surface area measurement, and scanning electron microscopy. Bioassays were performed with the seeds coated with the composite film to assess the germination rate and germination speed index of the seeds, as well as biometric analyses including measurements of root area, root fresh matter, and shoot length of the plants. The bioassay performed in soil pots showed that the alginate film containing ZnAl-NAA-LDH yields an enhancement regarding root area, fresh root matter and shoot length of plants. Thus, films produced from a mixture of alginate and the hybrid material containing the growth regulator intercalated into LDH can be a viable alternative to enhance plant development, which can be included in seed management.
