Computational results show that the alliance of the manufacturer and the first supplier yields the highest total profit for all decentralized scenarios. Because the lowest GHG emission rate among decentralized scenarios is achieved through alliance and cost-sharing mechanisms, the use of these mechanisms concurrently is appropriate for environmental purposes. In scenarios where supply chain members compete with each other, it is found to be cost-effective to increase the budget. Additional considerations can be made regarding the effects of other variables such as distance and advertising on demand as well as alternative forms of the demand function.Lumbrifiltration (LF) has been promoted as a low-cost, low maintenance and efficient solution for domestic and municipal wastewater treatment especially. However, there have been limited studies investigating the optimal operating conditions and long-term performances of LF systems (especially in temperate climates). The key objectives of this study were to (i) to present an outcome of the operating conditions and associated performance of LF the systems studied in the literature regarding removal efficiencies for nutrients and organic matter (OM) in municipal and domestic wastewater (WW) treatment contexts, (ii) to generate long term and reliable results on the potential performances of LF systems for the treatment of real municipal WW (for both OM and nutrients), (iii) to optimize operational conditions such as active layer height, earthworms density, HLR and earthworms type, conditions for which it is still unclear from the current literature which are optimal, and (iv) to assess the performances of the LF in a "temperate climate" context. Overall, LF systems showed high removal efficiencies for organic matter and nutrients for all the operating conditions tested. The study also confirmed the positive impact of earthworms in achieving high level of nitrification of ammonium after a short start-up period. The system operation and performances were maintained without maintenance for the whole duration of the study (over 250 days), showing the potential for keeping high level of performances for long-term periods. Recommendations are given in relation to LF system design such as optimal active layer height and hydraulic loading rate. The study also demonstrated the applicability and potential of Dendrobaena veneta as an alternative to Eisenia fetida (the latter generally being used in previous studies but are less available in some areas of Europe) for application in municipal wastewater treatment by LF.Microbial biodegradation is a key process for the removal of estrogens during wastewater treatment. At least four degradation pathways for natural estrogens have been proposed. However, major estrogen degraders and the occurrence of different estrogen biodegradation pathways in wastewater treatment plants have been rarely investigated. This study was conducted to elucidate estrone biodegradation pathway and to identify key estrone-degrading bacteria in activated sludge from a major wastewater treatment plant in Bahrain. The biodegradation experiments were performed in activated sludge microcosms supplemented with estrone. Sludge samples were retrieved at time intervals to analyze the biodegradation metabolites and the temporal shifts in the bacterial community composition. Chemical analysis revealed the biodegradation of more than 90% of the added estrone within 6 days, and the compounds 4-hydroxyestrone and pyridinestrone acid, which are typical markers of the 4,5-seco pathway of aerobic estrone biodegradatiathway and is most likely mediated by alphaproteobacterial taxa.
Lung cancer (LC) is the most common types of cancer worldwide and is marked by high mortality rate. LC is classified into two major types due to their molecular and histological properties; non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Currently, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the most common treatment options of LC. However, the survival rate of LC is still very poor. Therefore, new treatment strategies are urgently needed. Akt inhibitor Erufosine (ErPC3) is a novel alkylphosphocholine and inhibits the translocation of Akt to the plasma membrane.
In the current study, the effects of ErPC3 in NSCLC cell line A549 and SCLC cell line DMS 114 in terms of cell viability, induction of apoptosis, cell cycle phase distribution, gene and protein expression levels, and migration capacity were investigated. 25µM ErPC3 exhibited dose-dependent cytotoxicity against in both cancer cells. However, DMS 114 was more sensitive to ErPC3 than A549. Similarly, ErPC3 induced apoptotic cell ratio in DMS114 was significantly greater than A549. 25µM ErPC3 caused the accumulation of both cell in G2/M phase. The levels of BCL-2 were downregulated and CASPASE 3-7 and BAX were upregulated while p-Akt levels were reduced in A549 and DMS 114 cells treated with 25µM ErPC3. Besides, ErPC3 displayed anti-migratory effect on A549 and DMS 114.
These findings suggest that ErPC3 may be a promising novel therapeutic candidate for treatment of LC. ErPC3 treatment merits further investigation as potential agent against LC.

To determine whether Schisandrin B (Sch B) attenuates early brain injury (EBI) in rats with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into sham (sham operation), SAH, SAH+vehicle, and SAH+Sch B groups using a random number table. Rats underwent SAH by endovascular perforation and received Sch B (100 mg/kg) or normal saline after 2 and 12 h of SAH. SAH grading, neurological scores, brain water content, Evan's blue extravasation, and terminal transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling (TUNEL) staining were carried out 24 h after SAH. Immunofluorescent staining was performed to detect the expressions of ionized calcium binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the rat brain, while the expressions of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), Bax, Caspase-3, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated specklike protein containing the caspase-1 activator domain (ASC), Caspase-1, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-18 in the rat brains were detected by Western blot.
Compared with the SAH group, Sch B significantly improved the neurological function, reduced brain water content, Evan's blue content, and apoptotic cells number in the brain of rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Moreover, Sch B decreased SAH-induced expressions of Iba-1 and MPO (P<0.01). SAH caused the elevated expressions of Bax, Caspase-3, NLRP3, ASC, Caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 in the rat brain (P<0.01), all of which were inhibited by Sch B (P<0.01). In addition, Sch B increased the Bcl-2 expression (P<0.01).
Sch B attenuated SAH-induced EBI, which might be associated with the inhibition of neuroinflammation, neuronal apoptosis, and the NLRP3 inflammatory signaling pathway.

In recent years, the incidence of DOR has been increasing and the ages of patients are younger. The search for an effective DOR treatment has emerged as one of the preeminent research topics in reproductive health. An effective DOR therapy would improve ovarian function, fertility, and quality of life in patients. In this review we evaluated DOR treatment progress both in Western medicine and Chinese medicine, and elucidated the characteristics of each treatment.Male vocalizations associated with courtship can play a key role in mate selection. They may help females obtain information about males' quality and identity and/or may contain species-specific properties that help prevent interspecies breeding. Despite vocalizations being a prominent part of the courtship of white rhinos, the role that they play in white rhino breeding behaviour has not been extensively studied. Both southern (SWR) and critically endangered northern white rhino (NWR) males intensively vocalize during courtship with hic calls. We examined these calls and found that call properties differed between NWR and SWR males. In addition, we found that individual SWR males could be identified with a high degree of accuracy using their hic calls and that the signature information capacity in hic calls would allow females to individually recognize about 11 adult males living in or moving through their home-ranges, which may help with mate selection. Then, we conducted playback experiments with wild anoestrus SWR females. The females discriminated between the NWR and SWR hic calls and between the SWR hic and SWR pant calls. However, we only found differences in the latency of observed behaviours, not in their duration or in the intensity of females' reaction. This might suggest that females which are not in oestrus are not highly responsive to a male's motivation (i.e., seeking contact or mating), but are more interested in assessing his dominance status or familiarity. Ultimately, our results indicate that courtship hic calls encode information which might help females choose mating partners.Quantitation of mHLA-DR and nCD64 is useful in understanding the dysregulated host response. The down regulation of HLA-DR expression on the circulating monocytes (mHLA-DR) is associated with anti-inflammatory response, and an increased expression of CD64 on neutrophil surface (nCD64) is associated with pro-inflammatory response. Quantitation of these antigen expression using beads (QuantiBRITE™ PE) is a precision technique. These beads are reported to be stable for 24 h after reconstitution. We report the results of our investigation examining the stability of QuantiBRITE PE beads over a period of 4-week post-reconstitution. The data suggest that reconstituted QuantiBRITE PE beads, if stored in dark at 2-8 °C, can be effectively used for up to 2 weeks for determining nCD64 and mHLA-DR antibody bound per cell (ABC) values.Due to the presence of antibiotic-resistant genes, treatment options of clinical isolates are exceedingly limited. This study was aimed to fabricate, optimize, characterize, and evaluate the action of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) against a clinical isolate of Enterococcus faecalis. A combination of cell-free supernatant (C-FS) of the filamentous fungus Fusarium solani and Gram-negative Comamonas aquatica for AgNP formation was proposed; the antigrowth and antibiofilm of AgNPs against E. faecalis harboring blaTEM and blaCTX-M genes were assessed. The ratio of 12 v/v (C-FSAgNO3) at pH 9.0 for 72 h in 1 mM AgNO3 were the optimal conditions for AgNP formation. UV-vis absorption peak appeared at 425 nm and the crystalline nature of synthesized particles was verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis confirmed the interaction of protein molecules with the AgNPs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis demonstrated that fabricated AgNPs were relatively monodispersed, approximately spherical, and of size 2-7.
