Very little is known about how children with DLD learn foreign languages in classroom settings with limited input. This study addresses this gap and targets English as a foreign language (EFL) learning by Russian-speaking children with DLD. We ask whether learners with DLD benefit from a later onset of EFL instruction because older children are more cognitively mature and have more developed L1 skills. The second aim of this study is to determine whether EFL learners with DLD benefit from positive L1 transfer in vocabulary learning. We administered a receptive vocabulary test to younger (Grade 6, n = 18) and older (Grade 10, n = 15) children with DLD matched on the amount of prior EFL instruction. The younger group started EFL instruction in Grade 2 and the older group in Grade 6. The performance of the two groups was compared after four and a half years of English lessons. Half of the words in the test were English-Russian cognates and half were noncognates. Contra to our hypothesis, the results showed no difference between younger and older children. Both groups equally benefitted from cognate vocabulary suggesting that positive cross-language transfer is available to children with DLD, irrespective of their age and onset of EFL instruction.It remains a challenge to develop cost-effective, high-performance oxygen electrocatalysts for rechargeable metal-air batteries. Herein, zinc-mediated zeolitic imidazolate frameworks are exploited as the template and nitrogen and carbon sources, onto which is deposited a Fe3 O4 layer by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition. Controlled pyrolysis at 1000 °C leads to the formation of high density of Fe3 O4- x few-atom clusters with abundant oxygen vacancies deposited on an N-doped graphitic carbon framework. The resulting nanocomposite (Fe3 O4- x /NC-1000) exhibits a markedly enhanced electrocatalytic performance toward oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline media, with a remarkable half-wave potential of +0.930 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, long-term stability, and strong tolerance against methanol poisoning, in comparison to samples prepared at other temperatures and even commercial Pt/C. Notably, with Fe3 O4- x /NC-1000 as the cathode catalyst, a zinc-air battery delivers a high power density of 158 mW cm-2 and excellent durability at 5 mA cm-2 with stable 2000 charge-discharge cycles over 600 h. This is ascribed to the ready accessibility of the Fe3 O4- x catalytic active sites, and enhanced electrical conductivity, oxygen adsorption, and electron-transfer kinetics by surface oxygen vacancies. Further contributions may arise from the highly conductive and stable N-doped graphitic carbon frameworks.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of postoperative translabial ultrasound to assess the position of the tape implanted with the tension-free transobturator tape technique.
We enrolled women with clinically and urodynamically proven type I or II stress urinary incontinence who were referred for transobturator tape treatment.
A total of 50 women underwent a transobturator tape procedure and were included in the analysis. We divided the patients into two study groups (group A and group B), characterized by normal and obstructed flow at least 30 days after the surgical procedure visit, respectively. We performed a translabial ultrasound evaluation to assess the suburethral localization of the sling. On the longitudinal scan, the distance between the bladder neck and the suburethral sling was >10 mm in all patients in group A (16.7 ± 1.6). On the contrary, the values in group B were ≤10 mm (5.3 ± 4.8).

This study hypothesized that there is an optimal amount of MOFs that can be integrated into electrospun nanofiber filters to achieve the maximum particle removal efficiency while minimizing the corresponding MOF synthesis time. To test the hypothesis, this study systematically explored the influence of the time-dependent in situ growing process of zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67), a typical type of MOFs, on the filtration performance of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) electrospun nanofibers. The results show that the surface morphology and chemical composition of the PAN/ZIF-67 hybrid nanofiber filters gradually changed with the reaction time. For PAN/ZIF-67 hybrid nanofiber filters with relatively low initial PM0.3-0.4 filtration efficiency, a reaction time of only 5 min was sufficient for the synthesis of the amount of ZIF-67 that maximized the PM0.3-0.4 filtration efficiency. However, for thick filters with high original PM0.3-0.4 filtration efficiency (>90%), the integration of ZIF-67 was not necessary, because the efficiency enhancement would not be significant. In addition, the enhancement of filtration efficiency for ultrafine particles was positively correlated with the amount of incorporated ZIF-67. In summary, this study shortened the synthesis time of the in situ incorporation of MOFs into electrospun nanofiber filters from more than 10 h (reported in the literature) to only 5 min.Invasive lobular carcinoma with papillary features is a newly proposed variant which presents as a relatively well-circumscribed mass lesion with at least partial peripheral thickened fibrous capsule and central delicate fibrovascular cores, morphologically mimicking encapsulated papillary carcinoma or solid papillary carcinoma. There are only 5 cases described in literature. We here report an interesting example of invasive lobular carcinoma with papillary growth pattern surrounded by a thick fibrous capsule, mimicking encapsulated papillary carcinoma (EPC). The lobular nature of the tumor was confirmed by the absence of membranous expression of E-cadherin and p120 catenin. The lobular cytological features are subtle in this variant and may be overlooked. Differentiation of this variant from papillary carcinomas is crucial for correct tumor categorization, staging and most importantly, proper treatment.We illustrate a rare case of coexisting extramedullary manifestation of CMML and new onset follicular lymphoma within the same core-needle biopsy of a lymph node. We discuss the differences between extramedullary hematopoiesis and extramedullary manifestation of myeloid neoplasms. We also highlight the importance of generous tissue sampling and thorough examination of nodal tissue in the setting of an established myeloid neoplasm to avoid missing rare but possible nodal involvement.
Extra Corporeal Life Support (ECLS) may be a life-saving treatment for patients with reversible cardiac and/or respiratory failure. ECLS is associated with a high risk of complications and mortality. Because only a small number of studies have been conducted into the long-term effects of ECLS, we investigated the difference in quality of life, anxiety and depressive complaints and PTSD 3months after ICU discharge.
It is a retrospective case-control study covering the period January 2012 to December 2017. The ECLS patient group was compared to a matched similar patient group in the Intensive Care (IC) that did not have ECLS therapy. Quality of life was measured with the Short-Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire, anxiety and depression was measured with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire and for PTSD the Impact of Events Scale (IES) questionnaire was used, comparing sum scores and cut-off points of scores from both groups.
Included were 19 patients in the ECLS group and 38 in the conhan in the control group, however, this difference is not significant.
We found no statistically significant difference in quality of life, anxiety and depressive symptoms and PTSD symptoms between ECLS patients and the matched control group - 3 months after the ICU discharge. The incidence of anxiety and depressive symptoms and PTSD in the ECLS group is higher than in the control group, however, this difference is not significant.Carbon cycling by Antarctic microbial plankton is poorly understood but it plays a major role in CO2 sequestration in the Southern Ocean. We investigated the summer bacterioplankton community in the largely understudied Weddell Sea, applying Illumina amplicon sequencing, measurements of bacterial production and chemical analyses of organic matter. The results revealed that the patchy distribution of productive coastal polynyas and less productive, mostly ice-covered sites was the major driver of the spatial changes in the taxonomic composition and activity of bacterioplankton. Gradients in organic matter availability induced by phytoplankton blooms were reflected in the concentrations and composition of dissolved carbohydrates and proteins. Bacterial production at bloom stations was, on average, 2.7 times higher than at less productive sites. Abundant bloom-responsive lineages were predominately affiliated with ubiquitous marine taxa, including Polaribacter, Yoonia-Loktanella, Sulfitobacter, the SAR92 clade, and Ulvibacter, suggesting a widespread genetic potential for adaptation to sub-zero seawater temperatures. A co-occurrence network analysis showed that dominant taxa at stations with low phytoplankton productivity were highly connected, indicating beneficial interactions. Overall, our study demonstrates that heterotrophic bacterial communities along Weddell Sea ice shelves were primarily constrained by the availability of labile organic matter rather than low seawater temperature.
