Copyright © 2020 JCBN.Investigating the performance that can be achieved with different hydrological models across catchments with varying characteristics is a requirement for identifying an adequate model for any catchment, gauged or ungauged, just based on information about its climate and catchment properties. As parameter uncertainty increases with the number of model parameters, it is important not only to identify a model achieving good results but also to aim at the simplest model still able to provide acceptable results. The main objective of this study is to identify the climate and catchment properties determining the minimal required complexity of a hydrological model. As previous studies indicate that the required model complexity varies with the temporal scale, the study considers the performance at the daily, monthly, and annual timescales. In agreement with previous studies, the results show that catchments located in arid areas tend to be more difficult to model. In this study, we aimed to develop an immunohistochemistry to detect dacomitinib-ErbB family receptor conjugates. Immunostaining was performed in rat intestine and skin tissues after oral administration of dacomitinib. Following a single oral dose of dacomitinib, strong staining was observed after 24 hr in the ileum and colon, with only slight staining in the duodenum and jejunum. In the skin, strong staining was observed in the epidermis, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands. Moreover, significant amounts of dacomitinib remained for up to 72 hr post-administration in the ileum, colon, and skin. This report is the first to elucidate the localization and accumulation of dacomitinib in the rat intestine and skin and should be valuable during efforts to clarify the mechanism dacomitinib-induced diarrhea or skin toxicities. 2019 The Japan Society of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry.Rhythmic incremental growth lines occur in dental hard tissues of vertebrates, and dentinogenesis in rodent incisors is suggested to be controlled by the 24-hr circadian clock. Rodent incisors continue to grow throughout the animal's life; however, similar to human teeth, rodent molars stop growing after crown formation. This similarity suggests that the mouse molar is an excellent model to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying growth of human teeth. However, not much is known about the rhythmic dentinogenesis in mouse molars. Here, we investigated the incremental growth lines in mouse molar dentin using tetracycline as the growth marker. The incremental growth lines were observed to be generated at approximately 8-hr intervals in wild-type mice housed under 1212 hr light-dark conditions. Moreover, the 8-hr rhythmic increments persisted in the wild-type and Bmal1-/- mice housed in constant darkness, where Bmal1-/- mice become behaviorally arrhythmic. These results revealed that the dentinogenesis in mouse molars underlie the ultradian rhythms with around 8-hr periodicity. Further, the circadian clock does not seem to be involved in this process, providing new insight into the mechanisms involved in the tooth growth. 2019 The Japan Society of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry.Phenological shifts, changes in the seasonal timing of life cycle events, are among the best documented responses of species to climate change. However, the consequences of these phenological shifts for population dynamics remain unclear. Population growth could be enhanced if species that advance their phenology benefit from longer growing seasons and gain a pre-emptive advantage in resource competition. However, it might also be reduced if phenological advances increase exposure to stresses, such as herbivores and, in colder climates, harsh abiotic conditions early in the growing season. We exposed subalpine grasslands to ~ 3 K of warming by transplanting intact turfs from 2000 m to 1400 m elevation in the eastern Swiss Alps, with turfs transplanted within the 2000 m site acting as a control. In the first growing season after transplantation, we recorded species' flowering phenology at both elevations. We also measured species' cover change for three consecutive years as a measure of plant performance. We used models to estimate species' phenological plasticity (the response of flowering time to the change in climate) and analysed its relationship with cover changes following climate change. The phenological plasticity of the 18 species in our study varied widely but was unrelated to their changes in cover. Moreover, early- and late-flowering species did not differ in their cover response to warming, nor in the relationship between cover changes and phenological plasticity. These results were replicated in a similar transplant experiment within the same subalpine community, established one year earlier and using larger turfs. read more We discuss the various ecological processes that can be affected by phenological shifts, and argue why the population-level consequences of these shifts are likely to be species- and context-specific. Our results highlight the importance of testing assumptions about how warming-induced changes in phenotypic traits, like phenology, impact population dynamics.Methyl iodide is an industrial chemical used in methylation for pharmaceutical intermediates. Its toxicity is a rare industrial hazard. Its toxicity is reported with both acute sudden exposure and gradual exposure. The authors report a case of methyl iodide toxicity occurring in a 47 year-old male with sudden exposure to this chemical. He presented with neuropsychiatric symptoms primarily slurring of speech, ataxia followed by delusion and hallucinations which resolved within 2 weeks with parenteral thiamine and an antipsychotic. Symptoms reappeared after a re-exposure, this time with more prominent psychiatric symptoms which were late to resolve (4 weeks) with similar treatment. Neuroimaging revealed hyperintensities in posterior regions of the brain which resolved after 4 weeks. The patient had prominent neurocognitive deficits which were persistent.
