01); and experienced more strokes (54% vs 31%, p  less then  0.01). Ten-week mortality was similar for LSIE in both PWID and non-PWID (24% vs 20%, p = 0.47). CONCLUSIONS LSIE in PWID is not uncommon. Compared to non-LSIE in PWID, valve surgery is more common and mortality is higher. For reasons that are unclear, stroke is more frequent in LSIE in PWID than in non-PWID with LSIE but mortality is no different.The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of miR-34c-5p on the main voltage-dependent ion channels in skeletal muscle cells. This study focused on the effects of miR-34c-5p on sodium, potassium, and calcium currents in C2C12 myoblasts. The miR-34c-5p overexpression group, knockdown group, and control group were differentiated for 7 days, fused into myotubes, and used for the whole-cell patch clamp recording. Compared with the control group, the whole-cell sodium current density of the other two groups had no significant changes. In the knockdown group, the delayed rectifier potassium current density was increased (statistically significant), and the whole-cell calcium channel current density did not change. In the overexpression group, the change of rectifier potassium current density was not obvious, while the peak calcium channel current density increased (- 9.23 ± 0.95 pA/pF, n = 6 cells for the overexpression group vs. - 6.48 ± 0.64 pA/pF, n = 7 cells for the control; p  less then  0.05). Changes in the expression of miR-34c-5p can affect the electrophysiological characteristics of calcium and potassium voltage-gated channels in C2C12 myotubes. This review summarizes the function of the spinal Wnt signaling pathway in HIV-induced neuropathic pain, focusing on the role of the spinal Wnt signaling pathway in HNP, and provides a theoretical basis for further studies and the exploration of new target drugs.PURPOSE To retrospectively assess the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in predicting dentate line invasion in low rectal cancer. Salinomycin inhibitor MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty-one patients with primary rectal cancer were assessed by dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI. The location of the dentate line was assessed on MRI in 27 patients with upper-mid rectal cancer. Two observers independently evaluated the distance between the distal tumor edge and the MRI-defined dentate line in 54 patients with low rectal cancer, and the imaging and histological findings were compared. RESULTS The MRI-defined dentate line was 24.0 ± 3.8 mm above the anal verge in patients with upper-mid rectal cancer. The dentate line invasion status agreed with the histological findings in 49/54 (91%) patients (κ = 0.72 [95% CI 0.50-0.95]) for observer 1, and in 51/54 (94%) patients (κ = 0.83 [0.65-1.00]) for observer 2 in patients with low rectal cancer. Interobserver agreement was good (κ = 0.83 [0.65-1.00]). The MRI-derived distance between the distal tumor edge and the dentate line had significant correlation with the histological distance (r = 0.86 for reader 1 and 0.75 for observer 2). CONCLUSION MRI demonstrates high accuracy in predicting dentate line invasion in low rectal cancer.In order to examine psychological mechanisms contributing to the development and maintenance of mood symptoms experienced by individuals with obesity, this study focused on the mediator role of metacognitions in the relationship between adult attachment dimensions (anxious and avoidant) and mood symptoms (depression and anxiety). A 184 individuals with Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above completed a battery of instruments including measures of attachment styles, metacognitive beliefs and processes, depression, and anxiety symptoms. Multiple mediation analyses with bootstrapping demonstrated that while attachment anxiety was predictive of greater levels of depression and anxiety through the effect of beliefs about uncontrollability and dangerousness of worry, metacognitive factors have no mediator role in the relationship between avoidant attachment and mood symptoms. Findings suggest in particular that anxious attachment and metacognitive characteristics might be considered in case conceptualizations and intervention strategies for the psychological problems experienced by individuals with obesity.Level of Evidence Level V Descriptive (cross-sectional) study.PURPOSE Aging increases the prevalence of health problems that are often chronic, resulting in more sleep problems for people with poor health or chronic conditions. Relatively fewer studies have been conducted on the relationship between sleep duration and chronic conditions in Sub-Saharan Africa compared to Western or Asian populations. This study uses a nationally representative sample of older adults in Ghana to examine the association between sleep duration and chronic conditions. METHOD Data were gathered from the World Health Organization Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health (SAGE) Wave 1 in Ghana (n = 3617). Data on duration of sleep and chronic conditions were derived from self-reported data and validated symptom reporting. Multinomial logistic regression was conducted to examine the association between sleep duration and chronic conditions. RESULTS Women had a significantly longer period of sleep than men. Older people (> 60 years) were more likely than people under 60 years old to sleep for longer periods. The prevalence of stroke, depression, and chronic lung disease among long sleepers was high compared with short and medium sleepers. Our study found that respondents with stroke, arthritis, depression, chronic lung disease, asthma, and hypertension were likely to sleep for a long time. CONCLUSION This study showed a significant association between long hours of sleep and chronic conditions. To health professionals, paying particular attention to this association among older adults is medically important.
