Excessive sugar intake is now recognized as a key risk factor for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. In contrast, evidence on the sugar-cancer link is less consistent. Experimental data suggest that sugars could play a role in cancer etiology through obesity but also through inflammatory and oxidative mechanisms and insulin resistance, even in the absence of weight gain.
The objective was to study the associations between total and added sugar intake and cancer risk (overall, breast, and prostate), taking into account sugar types and sources.
In total, 101,279 participants aged >18 y (median age, 40.8 y) from the French NutriNet-Santé prospective cohort study (2009-2019) were included (median follow-up time, 5.9 y). Sugar intake was assessed using repeated and validated 24-h dietary records, designed to register participants' usual consumption for >3500 food and beverage items. Associations between sugar intake and cancer risk were assessed by Cox proportional hazard models adja modifiable risk factor for cancer prevention (breast in particular), contributing to the current debate on the implementation of sugar taxation, marketing regulation, and other sugar-related policies. The purposes of this study were to (1) investigate aspects of construct validity of peak force measurements of crate-and-pitcher tasks using the Task-oriented Arm-hAnd Capacity (TAAC), an instrument designed to measure task-oriented arm and hand strength for cross-sectional and evaluation purposes, and (2) compare TAAC measurements with those of comparative measures using COSMIN guidelines.
In this cross-sectional validity study, participants were 105 children (mean age=12 years 10 months; number of boys=66) diagnosed with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP). Ten a priori hypotheses were formulated with peak force of the TAAC as index measure and compared with measures on body functions and structure and activity level of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth. Strength and direction of the relationship between the TAAC and comparative measures were investigated by calculating Pearson correlation coefficients (r).

(1) Monthly prevalence and (2) quarterly incidence of statin use, (3) characteristics of new users, (4) total amount of statin redeemed, (5) statin discontinuation rate between 2014 and 2016 in long-term statin users and (6) factors associated with discontinuation.
We identified 395,279 unique older statin users between 2011 and 2016. The prevalence increased from 30% in 2011 to 33% in 2016 (23% for primary prevention and 56% for secondary prevention in 2016). The quarterly incidence fell from 11 per 1,000 persons in 2011 to 7 per 1,000 persons in 2016. The prevalence was generally stable in those 70 to 79years. In those aged ≥80years, the prevalence increased despite decreasing incidence. The proportion of persons initiating for primary prevention decreased from 58% in 2011 to 52% in 2016. Approximately 19% of long-term statin users discontinued therapy between 2014 and 2016. Increasing age was the strongest predictor of statin discontinuation.

Trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) is a compound that is present in seafood and produced through human gut microbial metabolism of its precursors. Previous studies have suggested that elevated TMAO concentrations are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. However, the association between diet and TMAO concentrations in free-living adult populations has not been adequately described.
The objective of this study was to identify dietary predictors of plasma TMAO concentrations.
TMAO concentrations were assessed in 2 fasting plasma samples collected 6 mo apart among 620 healthy men. Short-term and long-term dietary intakes were assessed during the same time-frame of blood collections via repeated 7-d dietary records (7DDRs) and a semiquantitative food-frequency questionnaire (SFFQ), respectively. We grouped individual food items into 21 groups and regressed against averaged TMAO concentrations. We also assessed the association between dietary scores and TMAO concentrations.
