Since cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) are a frequent cause of death worldwide, preventive strategies are needed. Recruiting adults for a health check could facilitate the identification of individuals at risk for CMD. For successful results, participation is crucial. We aimed to identify factors related to unwillingness to participate in CMD health checks.
We performed a cross-sectional study in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, and Sweden. A questionnaire was distributed among persons without known CMD consulting general practice between January and July 2017 within the framework of the SPIMEU study.
In total, 1354 persons responded. Nine percent was unwilling to participate in a CMD health check. Male gender, smoking, higher self-rated health, never been invited before, and not willing to pay were related to unwillingness to participate. The most mentioned reason for unwillingness to participate was "I think that I am healthy" (57%). Among the respondents who were willing to participate, 94% preferred an invitation by the general practitioner and 66% was willing to pay.
A minority of the respondents was unwilling to participate in a CMD health check with consistent results within the five countries. This provides a promising starting point to increase participation in CMD health checks in primary care.

C1q is a crucial component of the classical complement pathway. This study is the first to assess the association between disease activity and serum levels of C1q in Chinese Takayasu arteritis (TA) patients.
Serum C1q levels in 198 TA patients and 154 healthy controls were assessed, and the relationship between serum C1q levels and indices of TA disease activity was analyzed. Moreover, we examined the correlation between serum C1q levels and two traditional inflammatory biomarkers; erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hypersensitive CRP (hs-CRP).
Serum C1q levels were increased in TA patients compared with healthy controls (
= .008). TA patients with active disease had higher levels of serum C1q than patients who had inactive disease (
 < .0001). In addition, treatment-naïve patients had higher serum C1q levels than those who had been treated with corticosteroids or at least one immunosuppressant (
= .001). Furthermore, a positive correlation between serum C1q levels and traditional inflammatory biomarkers in TA patients was found. The role of C1q in assessing disease activity was studied, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of C1q for predicting active disease was 0.752, and a serum cutoff value of 167.15 mg/L C1q maximized the ability of disease activity assessment, with a sensitivity/specificity of 77.80%/64.90%. When the three indicators (C1q, ESR, and hs-CRP) were combined, the AUC increased to 0.845, and the sensitivity to 84.40%.

In this study, a rare case with hemophilia pseudotumor in the skull was reported.
The case was a 34-year-old male patient who was admitted to the hospital, with the complaint of dizziness for more than 1 month. The physical examination indicated that the patient was conscious, who could give right answers to the questions. Moreover, there was a bulge on the left frontal-temporal parietal bone. The head CT showed abnormal density lesions on the left frontal-temporal parietal bone, with multiple irregular calcifications within the border. Skull MRI showed a large clump-like mixed signal at the top of the left frontal ridge. After admission, the patient was subjected to complete preoperative preparation and surgical treatment. Neurological navigation was used to determine the extent of skull defect before surgery to make a surgical incision. Clotting factor VIII substitution therapy was used for the intraoperative and postoperative treatments. The lesion was completely removed.
These results suggest that the skull hemophilia pseudotumor has been rarely seen.
