To evaluate the influence of post-label delay times (PLDs) on the performance of 3D pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL) magnetic resonance imaging for characterizing parotid gland tumors and to explore the optimal PLDs for the differential diagnosis.
Fifty-eight consecutive patients with parotid gland tumors were enrolled, including 33 patients with pleomorphic adenomas (PAs), 16 patients with Warthin's tumors (WTs), and 9 patients with malignant tumors (MTs). 3D pCASL was scanned for each patient five times, with PLDs of 1025 ms, 1525 ms, 2025 ms, 2525 ms, and 3025 ms. Tumor blood flow (TBF) was calculated, and compared among different PLDs and tumor groups. Performance of TBF at different PLDs was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic analysis.
With an increasing PLD, TBF tended to gradually increase in PAs (p < 0.001), while TBF tended to slightly increase and then gradually decrease in WTs (p = 0.001), and PAs showed significantly lower TBF than WTs at all 5 PLDs (p < PAs from WTs or MTs. • Short PLDs (1025 ms or 1525 ms) are suggested to be used in 3D pCASL for characterizing parotid gland tumors in clinical practice.

A Checklist for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging systematic review was conducted from January 1, 2015, to June 1, 2020, using PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. A total of 36 articles discussing deep learning applications in knee joint imaging were identified, divided by imaging modality, and characterized by imaging task, data source, algorithm type, and outcome metrics.
A total of 36 studies were identified and divided into X-ray (44.44%) and MRI (55.56%). The mean CLAIM score of the 36 studies was 27.94 (standard deviation, 4.26), which was 66.53% of the ideal score of 42.00. The CLAIM items achieved an average good inter-rater agreement (ICC 0.815, 95% CI 0.660-0.902). Vessel wall enhancement (VWE) may be commonly seen on MRI images of asymptomatic subjects. This study aimed to characterize the VWE of the proximal internal carotid (ICA) and vertebral arteries (VA) in a non-vasculitic elderly patient cohort.
Cranial MRI scans at 3 Tesla were performed in 43 patients (aged ≥ 50 years) with known malignancy for exclusion of cerebral metastases. For vessel wall imaging (VWI), a high-resolution compressed-sensing black-blood 3D T1-weighted fast (turbo) spin echo sequence (T1 CS-SPACE prototype) was applied post gadolinium with an isotropic resolution of 0.55 mm. Bilateral proximal intradural ICA and VA segments were evaluated for presence, morphology, and longitudinal extension of VWE.
Concentric VWE of the proximal intradural ICA was found in 13 (30%) patients, and of the proximal intradural VA in 39 (91%) patients. Mean longitudinal extension of VWE after dural entry was 13 mm in the VA and 2 mm in the ICA. In 14 of 39 patients (36%) with proximal intradural VWE, morpholnd 13 mm of the VA after dural entry in non-vasculitic elderly people. • Concentric enhancement within the proximal 2 mm of the intradural ICA and within the proximal 13 mm of the intradural VA portions should not be misinterpreted as vasculitis. • Distal of this, VWE is likely related to pathologic conditions, in case of concentric VWE suggestive of vasculitis.
Chemotherapy for end-of-life ovarian cancer patients is a complex and delicate problem. We evaluated whether active palliative chemotherapy is beneficial for such patients using inflammatory parameters, nutritional indicators, and the PPI (Palliative Prognostic Index), which predicts short-term prognosis.
Thirty-six patients among 49 patients who died from ovarian cancer from 2014 to 2019 at our hospital were enrolled, whom clinical and laboratory data just before starting their final chemotherapy regimen could be obtained. Associations between the time from last chemotherapy to death and the following parameters were investigated age, performance status, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio, Modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS), Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) score, and PPI score.
The median age was 57 (range 19-80) years. The median time from last chemotherapy to death was 45.5 (range 11-110) days. click here Eight patients (22%) died within 30days of their last chemotherapy regimen. In univariate analysis, median survival time was significantly shorter in patients with higher NLR, mGPS 2, and higher PPI values; NLR (≥ median vs. < median) 32 (range 11-80) days vs. 54 (range 35-110) days, p = 0.008; mGPS (2 vs. 0-1) 42 (range 11-80) days vs. 96 (range 49-110) days, p = 0.012; and PPI score (≥ median vs. < median) 38 (range 11-74) days vs. 60 (range 18-110) days, p = 0.005. However, in multivariate analysis, no factors were identified as independent prognostic factors for survival.

Preliminary evidence has demonstrated a link between anxiety and memory impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). This study further investigated this association using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria for anxiety disorders and a standardized cognitive test battery.
A convenience sample of 89 PD patients without dementia was recruited from neurology outpatient clinics. A cross-sectional design was applied. Participants completed two semi-structured interviews. link2 The first interview diagnosed DSM-5 anxiety disorders, unspecified anxiety disorder, and no anxiety. The second interview applied a neurocognitive test battery comprising two tests for each domain. Logistic regression models compared cognitive characteristics associated with anxiety disorders to no anxiety.
Clinically significant anxiety was associated with immediate verbal memory impairment compared to the no anxiety group (OR, 95% CI 0.52, 0.30-0.89; p = 0.018), controlling for sex and age. The anxiety disorders group demonstrated immediate (OR, 95% CI 0.46, 0.26-0.83; p = 0.010) and delayed (OR, 95% CI 0.63, 0.40-0.99; p = 0.047) verbal memory impairments compared to those without anxiety, controlling for sex and age. This association remained for immediate (OR, 95% CI 0.43, 0.22-0.84; p = 0.013), but not delayed verbal memory impairment (OR, 95% CI 0.65, 0.39-1.06; p = 0.081) when additionally controlling for disease severity, education and levodopa dose.

Bowel dysfunction (BD) is reported as a common and disabling symptom in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. To date, no studies have explored the prevalence of these symptoms in a large multicenter outpatient setting. link3 The aims of the present study are to assess (i) the prevalence of BD in a large multicenter Italian MS population, and (ii) the correlation between clinico-demographic variables and the severity of BD.
Each of the nine participating center screened MS patients prospectively 1100 subjects were enrolled. All patients underwent the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and completed the Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction score (NBDs). Multivariable linear and logistic regression models were used to assess the association between NBDs and several clinico-demographic variables.
Fourteen percent of MS patients showed a moderate/severe BD (NBDs > 10); this percentage increased in patients with high disability, ranging from 26 to 32%. Moderate/severe BD was more frequent in MS patients with progressive phenotypes, higher disability, older age, and longer disease duration. NBDs severity was predicted by female sex, ambulation impairment and bladder symptoms.

BD appears to be mainly associated to female sex and MS-related disability.Neonates with genetic disorders or congenital anomalies (CA) contribute considerably to morbidity and mortality in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The objective of this study is to study the prevalence of genetic disorders in an academic level IV NICU. We retrospective collected and analyzed both clinical and genetic data of all 1444 infants admitted to the NICU of the Radboudumc (October 2013 to October 2015). Data were collected until infants reached at least 2 years of age. A total of 13% (194/1444) of the patients were genetically tested, and 32% (461/1444) had a CA. A total of 37% (72/194) had a laboratory-confirmed genetic diagnosis. In 53%, the diagnosis was made post-neonatally (median age = 209 days) using assays including exome sequencing. Exactly 63% (291/461) of the patients with CA, however, never received genetic testing, despite being clinically similar those who did.Conclusions Genetic disorders were suspected in 13% of the cohort, but only confirmed in 5%. Most received their genetic diagnosis in the post-neonatal period.
