The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted healthcare systems globally, little is known about the trauma patterns during a national lockdown. The aim of this study is to delineate the trauma patterns and outcomes at Aintree University Teaching Hospital level 1 Major Trauma Centre (MTC) during the COVID-19 lockdown imposed by the U.K. government.
A retrospective cohort study data from the Merseyside and Cheshire Trauma Audit and Research Network database were analysed. The 7-week 'lockdown period' was compared to a 7-week period prior to the lockdown and also to an equivalent 7-week period corresponding to the previous year.
A total of 488 patients were included in the study. Overall, there was 37.6% and 30.0% reduction in the number of traumatic injuries during lockdown. Road traffic collisions (RTC) reduced by 42.6% and 46.6%. RTC involving a car significantly reduced during lockdown, conversely, bike-related RTC significantly increased. No significant changes were noted in deliberate self-harm, trauma severitdown state were found to have no significant impact on survival outcomes for trauma.
The indication of whole body computed tomography (WBCT) in the emergency treatment of trauma is still under debate. We were interested in the detailed information gain obtained from WBCT following standardized conventional imaging (CI).
Prospective study including all emergency trauma centre patients examined by CI (focused assessment of sonography in trauma, chest and pelvic X-ray) followed by WBCT from 2011 to 2017. Radiology reports were compared per patient for defined body regions for number and severity of injuries (Abbreviated Injury Scale, AIS; Injury Severity Score, ISS), incidental findings and treatment consequences (Wilcoxon signed rank test, Spearman rho, Chi-square).
1271 trauma patients (ISS 11.3) were included in this study. WBCT detected more injury findings than CI in the equivalent body regions (1.8 vs. 0.6; p < 0.001). In 44.4% of cases at least one finding was missed by CI alone. Compared to WBCT, injury severity of specified body regions was underestimated by CI on average by another hand, WBCT appeared not to be indicated (ISS less then 8) in at least 2/5 of patients.

Despite its establishment as a botanical variety ~ 150years ago, and its wide use as an important source of disease resistances in cucumber breeding, little is known about its taxonomic status and genetic basis of those characteristic traits. Gilteritinib Here we reported QTL mapping with segregating populations derived from two Sikkim-type inbred lines, WI7088D and WI7120, and identification of 48 QTL underlying phenotypic variation for 18 horticulturally important traits. We found that the fruit spine and skwas controlled by the well-known H (Heavy netting) and a novel Rs (Russet skin) locus, which was delimited to a 271-kb region on Chr5 and ~ 736-kb region on Chr1, respectively. A single major-effect QTL was detected for flowering time in each population (ft1.1 for WI7088D and ft6.2 for WI7120). Fifteen, six and five QTL were identified for fruit size, hollow size and flesh thickness variation in the two populations, respectively. No major structural changes were found between the Sikkim and cultivated cucumbers. Except for the rare allele at the Rs locus, there seem no private QTL/alleles identified from this study supporting the Sikkim cucumber as an ecotype of C. sativus, not worthy of formal taxonomic recognition.
Comprehensive understanding glioma metabolic characters is of great help for patient management. We aimed to compare amide proton transfer imaging (APTw) and magnetization transfer imaging (MT) in predicting glioma malignancy and reflecting tumor proliferation.
Thirty low-grade gliomas (LGGs) and 39 high-grade gliomas (HGGs) were prospectively included, of which 58 samples Ki-67 levels were quantified. Anatomical MRI, APTw, and MT were scanned, and magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) and asymmetric magnetic transfer ratio at 3.5 ppm (MTR
) were calculated. ROIs were semi-automatically drawn with ImageJ, from which histogram features, including 5th, 25th, 50th, mean, 70th, 90th, and 95th percentiles were extracted. The independent t test was used to test differences in LGGs and HGGs, and correlations between histogram features and tumor grades, Ki-67 were revealed by Spearman's rank or Pearson's correlation analysis.
The maximum correlation coefficient (R) values of APTw were 0.526 (p < 0.001) with tumor grades and 0.397 (p < 0.001) with Ki-67 at 90th percentiles, while only 5th and 25th percentiles of MT significantly correlated with tumor grades. Moreover, APTw features were significantly different in LGGs and HGGs, except 5th percentile. The most significantly different feature was 95th percentile, providing the excellent AUC of 0.808. However, the best feature in MTR was 5th percentiles with AUC of 0.703. Combing 5th and 95th of APTw achieved highest AUC Of 0.837.
Both APTw and MT provide quantitative information for tumor metabolite imaging. However, APTw supplys more specific information in reflecting glioma biological behaviors than MT, and well differentiates glioma malignancy.
