The municipalities of Caucaia and São Gonçalo do Amarante are located in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza (CE) and are home to the Pecém Port Industrial Complex (PPIC). We know that economic development is not necessarily related to improvements in the quality of life of the population. Furthermore, the bonuses and burdens of this particular installation can occur unevenly. This study aimed to assess the cumulative environmental vulnerability of these municipalities. We used the cumulative environmental vulnerability assessment methodology to assess the population's degree of vulnerability, considering census sectors as a spatial unit. This approach combines three indices environmental risk index, social vulnerability index, and health index. Finally, we calculated the arithmetic mean of each indicator in each census sector. We built choropleth maps to assess the spatial distribution of environmental vulnerability. We found that many maps demonstrated high cumulative environmental vulnerability census sectors around the PPIC, while the Caucaia, located downtown, exhibited a substantial majority of the low cumulative environmental vulnerability census sectors. The district of Guararu, in Caucaia, was notable for having proportionally more census sectors with high health index values. Environmental vulnerability was heterogeneously distributed, and the most impoverished areas are also the most vulnerable. The use of the Internet to develop new technologies has generated a considerable change in teaching and student learning in higher education. The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has forced universities to switch from face-to-face to online instruction. Furthermore, this transfer process was planned and executed quickly, with urgent redesigns of courses originally conceived for live teaching. P110δ-IN-1 PI3K inhibitor The aim of this work is to measure the service quality of online teaching delivered during the COVID-19 period. The methodology was based on an importance-performance analysis using a structural equations model. The data were obtained from a sample of 467 students attending a university in southern Spain. The results reveal five priority attributes of online teaching that need to be improved in order to enhance the service quality of the virtual instruction provided to students. Universities need to redefine their online format by integrating methodological and technological decisions and involving collaboration between teachers, students and administration staff and services. The results do not apply to educational institutions that exclusively teach courses online, but to those institutions that had to rapidly adapt, and shift course material originally designed for face-to-face training. In this work, the fatigue crack growth (FCG) behavior and fatigue damage mechanism of the 2.25Cr1Mo0.25V steel welded joint used in hydrogenation reactors were investigated. The multi-pass welding was carried out to manufacture the welded joint using the combined shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and submerged automatic arc welding (SAAW) processes. The FCG behavior of different zones in the welded joint, including the base metal (BM), the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and the weld metal (WM), were studied by compact tension tests. Moreover, the acoustic emission (AE) technique was used to monitor AE signals generated from FCG process for further understanding FCG behavior and fatigue mechanisms. Additionally, the microstructures and fracture surfaces of different specimens were observed by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results revealed that the microstructure of BM is fine granular bainite, while the WM shows coarser bainite grains. The HAZ exhibits the most significant inhomogeneity with large dispersion of grain size. FCG results showed that the HAZ exhibits much higher fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) at low ΔK values, while the BM shows the most superior fatigue resistance. The AE technique is successful in monitoring and identifying damage evolutions during the FCG process. Moreover, an enhanced AE activity is observed in FCG of the WM specimen, which is attributed to the combined influence of the formation of numerous secondary cracks and coarse-grained microstructures. The calcium Sensing Receptor (CaSR) is a cell surface receptor belonging to the family of G-protein coupled receptors. CaSR is mainly expressed by parathyroid glands, kidneys, bone, skin, adipose tissue, the gut, the nervous system, and the cardiovascular system. The receptor, as its name implies is involved in sensing calcium fluctuations in the extracellular matrix of cells, thereby having a major impact on the mineral homeostasis in humans. Besides calcium ions, the receptor is also activated by other di- and tri-valent cations, polypeptides, polyamines, antibiotics, calcilytics and calcimimetics, which upon binding induce intracellular signaling pathways. Recent studies have demonstrated that CaSR influences a wide variety of cells and processes that are involved in inflammation, the cardiovascular system, such as vascular calcification, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, hypertension, and obesity. Therefore, in this review, the current understanding of the role that CaSR plays in inflammation and its consequences on the cardiovascular system will be highlighted.Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is characterized by changes in interneuron numbers in the hippocampus. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an emerging tool to treat TLE seizures, although its mechanisms are not fully deciphered. We aimed to depict the effect of amygdala DBS on the density of the most common interneuron types in the CA1 hippocampal subfield in the lithium-pilocarpine model of epilepsy. Status epilepticus was induced in male Wistar rats. Eight weeks later, a stimulation electrode was implanted to the left basolateral amygdala of both pilocarpine-treated (Pilo, n = 14) and age-matched control rats (n = 12). Ten Pilo and 4 control animals received for 10 days 4 daily packages of 50 s 4 Hz regular stimulation trains. At the end of the stimulation period, interneurons were identified by immunolabeling for parvalbumin (PV), neuropeptide Y (NPY), and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). Cell density was determined in the CA1 subfield of the hippocampus using confocal microscopy. We found that PV+ cell density was preserved in pilocarpine-treated rats, while the NPY+/nNOS+ cell density decreased significantly.
