Long-acting growth hormone (LAGH) is emerging to be a new preparation for treatment of short stature. We aimed to determine whether 12-month treatment with LAGH in patients with idiopathic short stature has an effect on the nocturnal endogenous growth hormone (GH) secretion and metabolic consequences and efficacy. Participants included 10 GH-naïve prepubertal children with idiopathic short stature (ISS). One patient was withdrawn due to own decline during study. Participants were randomized on a 11 ratio to receive either a daily GH (0.37 mg/kg/week) or once-weekly LAGH (0.7 mg/kg/week) over a 12-month period. Nocturnal endogenous GH secretory profiles obtained from 12-h blood samplings at 30-min interval were assessed at baseline and 2 weeks after the completion of GH treatment. Post-treatment changes in height velocity, height standard deviation score (SDS), metabolic parameters, and adverse events were measured. A total of 4 patients received LAGH, and 5 patients received daily GH. Nocturnal endogenous GH secretory profiles, such as mean serum GH concentrations, frequency, amplitude, interpulse interval of spontaneous GH secretory bursts, and mass of GH released per secretory burst were similar at baseline and after 12-month treatment in both groups. The efficacy and safety after LAGH treatment for 12 months were similar to those of daily GH. In conclusions, these findings indicated that LAGH does not suppress endogenous GH secretion, and can be used for treatment of non-GH deficient short stature with similar efficacy and safety compared to daily GH. These may contribute to define and develop treatment and follow-up protocols for LAGH use in ISS patients.
Compound Kushen injection (CKI) is a Chinese patented medicine that improves the immunity level of cancer patients and inhibits tumor cell proliferation and metastasis. Clinically, CKI is widely used in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy (PBC) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. This study attempted to systemically evaluate the efficacy and safety of a combination of CKI and PBC for NSCLC treatment by modulating the immune function.

English and Chinese databases were retrieved for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of NSCLC treatment using a combination of CKI and PBC, and the changes of peripheral blood T lymphocytes (such as CD3

It is predicted to become mainstream in the next decade. Therefore, it is imperative to fully investigate the safety issues of the truck platoon before its large-scale deployment. However, studies on the lateral safety of the truck platoon under extreme weather, especially crosswinds are still lacking. To fill such a research gap, the current study contributes to the literature by proposing a reliability-based framework to evaluate the safety of the truck platoon regarding incursion into neighboring lanes due to extreme weather, especially crosswinds. The proposed approach involved three main steps (1) the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the aerodynamics of the truck platoon; (2) the truck platoon driving simulation under crosswind; and (3) the advanced response surface model development and the the impact of contributing factors towards the safety index of the truck platoon was also evaluated. This study confirmed that the proposed framework could be applied to evaluate the lateral safety of the truck platoon. The findings provide important practical implications for the decision-making of transportation management agencies and tailored countermeasures in the CAV) environment.
The purpose of this study was to identify sex differences in lower limb kinematics, kinetics, and muscle activation patterns between individuals with osteoarthritis and healthy controls during a two-legged squat.
Thirty OA (15 females) and 30 healthy (15 females) participants performed three 2-legged squats. Sagittal and frontal plane hip, knee, and ankle kinematics and kinetics were calculated. Two-way ANOVAs (Sex X OA Status) were used to characterize differences in squatting strategies between sexes and between those with and without knee OA.
A greater decrease in sagittal hip, knee, and ankle range of motion and knee joint power was observed in the OA participants compared to the healthy controls. Females with OA had significantly reduced hip and knee adduction angles compared to the healthy females and males with OA. Females also had decreased hip power, hip flexion, and hip adduction moments and knee adduction moments compared to their male counterparts, with the greatest deficits observed in the females with OA. Females with OA also had the highest magnitude of muscle activation for the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gastrocnemius throughout the squat, while males with OA showed increased activation of the vastus lateralis and medial gastrocnemius compared to the healthy males.

There remains a considerable concern among both patients and oncologists that having a live birth (LB) after breast cancer might adversely impact survival.
analysis of survival in a national cohort of women with breast cancer diagnosed at age 20-39 years between 1981 and 2017 (n=5181), and subsequent LB using Scottish Cancer Registry and national maternity records. Cases had at least one subsequent LB, each was matched with up to six unexposed cases without subsequent LB, accounting for guaranteed time bias.
In 290 women with a LB after diagnosis, overall survival was increased compared to those who did not have a subsequent LB, HR 0.65 (95%CI 0.50-0.85). Women with subsequent LB who had not had a pregnancy before breast cancer showed increased survival (HR 0.56, 0.38-0.82). There was a progressively greater interaction of subsequent LB with survival with younger age, thus for women aged 20-25 years, HR 0.30 (0.12-0.74)vs. those aged 36-39, HR 0.89 (0.42-1.87). In women with LB within five years of diagnosis, survival was also increased (HR 0.66; 0.49-0.89). Survival following LB was similar to unexposed women by ER status (both positive and negative) and in those known to have been exposed to chemotherapy.

Thus, the toxic effects of NEB and its UV-TPs on aquatic organisms are of great importance for aquatic ecosystems. In the present study, the degradation pathway of NEB under UV radiation was investigated. Subsequently, zebrafish embryos/larvae were used to assess the median lethal concentration (LC50) of NEB, and to clarify the sub-lethal effects of NEB and its UV-TPs for the first time. It was found that UV radiation could reduce the toxic effects of NEB on the early development of zebrafish. Transcriptomic analysis identified the top 20 enriched Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways in zebrafish larvae exposed to NEB, most of which were associated with the antioxidant, nervous, and immune systems. The number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the pathways were reduced after UV radiation.
