Worldwide studies have reported a drastic increase in child sexual abuse (CSA) involving very young children. In Malaysia, several attempts have been made to combat this problem via educational programs. Teachers have reported a lack of confidence in teaching this topic; hence a less threatening approach is needed. The Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) is an innovation whereby the children bring their teddies while visiting the volunteers assuming healthcare practitioners' role. This execution is effective in reducing the children's anxieties about hospitalization and increasing their health knowledge. Therefore, our objective is to explore healthcare practitioners' (HCP) views for the content of TBH and its approach as a personal safety module toward preventing CSA. Eighteen in-depth-interviews were conducted. Interviews were thematically analyzed. Participants suggest the TBH method as a good approach to teaching prevention of CSA among preschoolers. Four main themes emerged from this study (1) educating children about personal safety, (2) moral values and faith as a medium to prevent child sexual abuse, (3) addressing social media use in children, and (4) general approach to content delivery. The involvement of parents is crucial. Addressing moral values and faith and usage of social media platforms are also essential factors to look into.Spectrotemporal modulations (STM) are essential features of speech signals that make them intelligible. While their encoding has been widely investigated in neurophysiology, we still lack a full understanding of how STMs are processed at the behavioral level and how cochlear hearing loss impacts this processing. Here, we introduce a novel methodological framework based on psychophysical reverse correlation deployed in the modulation space to characterize the mechanisms underlying STM detection in noise. We derive perceptual filters for young normal-hearing and older hearing-impaired individuals performing a detection task of an elementary target STM (a given product of temporal and spectral modulations) embedded in other masking STMs. Analyzed with computational tools, our data show that both groups rely on a comparable linear (band-pass)-nonlinear processing cascade, which can be well accounted for by a temporal modulation filter bank model combined with cross-correlation against the target representation. Our results also suggest that the modulation mistuning observed for the hearing-impaired group results primarily from broader cochlear filters. Yet, we find idiosyncratic behaviors that cannot be captured by cochlear tuning alone, highlighting the need to consider variability originating from additional mechanisms. Overall, this integrated experimental-computational approach offers a principled way to assess suprathreshold processing distortions in each individual and could thus be used to further investigate interindividual differences in speech intelligibility.
To investigate wellbeing and work impacts in younger people with persistent shoulder pain.
People aged 20-55 years with shoulder pain of >6 weeks' duration (excluding those with recent fracture or dislocation) were recruited from orthopaedic clinics at three major public hospitals. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological distress were evaluated using the Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL) and K10 instruments and compared to population norms. Shoulder-related absenteeism and presenteeism were quantified using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) Questionnaire.
Of the 81 participants (54% male), 69% had shoulder pain for over 12 months. The need to develop a more effective intervention to obtain a functional recovery of stroke patients who are unable to perform land-based treadmill gait training has been widely reported. Thus, this pilot study aimed to identify a gait training type that could lead to improved gait and respiratory functioning in adult patients with chronic severe hemiplegic stroke.
To examine whether underwater treadmill or/and overground gait training could be more effective in stroke patients.
In this single-blinded, randomized, controlled, comparative study, 22 patients with severe hemiplegic stroke in a rehabilitation hospital were randomly assigned to the experimental (underwater treadmill gait training) or control group (overground gait training). All participants performed a 60-min neurodevelopmental treatment (five times/week for 12weeks). Each group performed 30-min underwater or overground gait training (two times/week for 12weeks). Gait and respiratory function were measured before and after the 12-week training.
For the walking variables, step-time difference changes post-training showed significant differences between the groups (-.06 vs. +.04 s, p <.05). Both groups showed significant increases in the maximal voluntary volume (MVV) at post compared to pre training (p<.05). The post-training MVV values were significantly different between the two groups (+23.35 vs. +4.76L, p <.05).

This points to the importance of identifying a scale that may be useful in keeping track of the change in students' attitudes over time. In response to this, using a combination of within- and between-network approaches to construct validity, we examined the psychometric acceptability of the Interprofessional Attitude Scale (IPAS) involving 274 Chinese healthcare and social care pre-licensure students in Hong Kong. link3 Overall results indicated that IPAS had good internal consistency. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis provided support to the overall five-factor solution although one negatively worded item obtained non-significant factor loading. Results of the between-network analysis suggest that various subscales of IPAS correlated systematically with other theoretically relevant variables teamwork attitudes, communication, and team effectiveness. The IPAS is a valid measure to examine predominantly Chinese healthcare and social care students' interprofessional attitudes in online interprofessional education.
There is an urgent need to reduce mortality of COVID-19. We examined if corticosteroids and tocilizumab reduce risk for death in patients with severe pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2.
A retrospective cohort study was performed in a single university hospital. All adult patients admitted with confirmed severe COVID-19 pneumonia from 9 March to 9 April 2020 were included. Severe pneumonia was defined as multi-lobar or bilateral pneumonia and a ratio of oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry to the fraction of inspired oxygen (SpFi)<315. All patients received antiviral and antibiotic treatment. From March 26, patients also received immunomodulatory treatment with corticosteroids (methylprednisolone 250 mg/day for 3 days), or tocilizumab or both. In-hospital mortality in the entire cohort and in a 11 matched cohort sub-analysis was evaluated.

Corticosteroids alone also resulted in lower in-hospital mortality rate compared to patients receiving only antiviral and antibiotic treatment. Corticosteroids alone or combined with tocilizumab may be considered in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia.The effect of an extremely low-frequency magnetic field (ELF-MFs) on the expression levels of NOTCH1 and its regulatory circular RNA (circ-RNA) in gastric cancer has not yet investigated. This study aimed to find the expression changes of NOTCH1 and its regulatory circ-RNA, hsa_circ_0005986, in human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line (AGS) and human normal fibroblast (Hu02) cells fallowing the exposure to discontinuously magnetic flux densities (MFDs) of 0.25, 0.5 ,1 and 2 millitesla (mT) for 18h in comparison to unexposed cells. In addition, the effect of various MFDs on viability of tumor and normal cells was investigated. The cell viability was evaluated by MTT assay. The relative expression of NOTCH1and hsa_circ_0005986 mRNAs was analyzed by quantitative Real-time PCR. The viability of tumor cells was decreased under the exposure of MFs, while the normal cells viability was increased. NOTCH1 was significantly down-regulated in AGS cells and up-regulated in Hu02 cells at all MFDs. The expression changes of NOTCH1 in tumor and normal cells was depended to the MFD of MFs. According to our results, the tumor and normal cells show different behavior at the molecular level in various MFDs in terms of NOTCH1 and hsa_circ_0005986 expression level. Decrease in tumor cell survival following the exposure to ELF-MFs may be the result of decreased in the expression level of NOTCH1 and its Reg-circ-RNA. These magnetic field-reducing effects on cancer cell survival through the change on the expression of genes involved in the proliferation and progression of cancer can be a new key in cancer treatment.
There are few effective therapies for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) upon the outbreak of the pandemic. To compare the effectiveness of a novel genetically engineered recombinant super-compound interferon (rSIFN-co) with traditional interferon-alpha added to baseline antiviral agents (lopinavir-ritonavir or umifenovir) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe COVID-19.
In this multicenter randomized (11) trial, patients hospitalized with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 received either rSIFN-co nebulization or interferon-alpha nebulization added to baseline antiviral agents for no more than 28 days. The primary endpoint was the time to clinical improvement. Secondary endpoints included the overall rate of clinical improvement assessed on day 28, the time to radiological improvement and virus nucleic acid negative conversion.
