< 0.001). In > 70% of children, their index-case parent was symptomatic due to COVID-19 at the time of infection transmitting. Studies for which a risk of bias assessment was possible were of fair quality.
There is a substantial global burden of parents being the index case of COVID-19 infected children, and frequently these parents are symptomatic. Therefore, from a public health perspective, early detection of these parents is crucial.

Although the association between femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome and hip osteoarthritis (OA) is well established, not all hips exhibiting cam or pincer morphologies (i.e. imaging findings of FAI syndrome) are symptomatic or arthritic. It is difficult to detect which subgroup will wear out, or how does the arthritic process start radiographically. Therefore, we measured in a retrospective study based on computed tomography (CT) analysis, the joint space width (JSW) according to a standard protocol and we investigated its variation according to the presence of a cam and/or pincer morphology. We hypothesized that the radiological presence of a cam and/or pincer hip morphologies, even in asymptomatic subjects, would affect JSW.
Two hundred pelvic CT scans performed for non-orthopedic etiologies in asymptomatic patients were analyzed using a 3D software. After excluding patients with hip OA or previous hip surgery, 194 pelvic CT scans (388 hips) were retained. We measured for each hip the presence g later classical alterations.
Positive variations in JSW were associated to the presence of cam and pincer morphologies. This significant increase in JSW could be one of the earliest measurable changes preceding later classical alterations.
Active school travel is an important way to promote children's physical activity, but it requires supportive environments that can safely and comfortably accommodate children's walking and biking. Few existing indices explicitly consider school neighborhood environmental factors related to children's walking to school. In this study, we used a street audit tool and Geographic Information System (GIS) to evaluate walkability near low-income elementary schools in Seattle, WA.
The audit-based school walkability index was developed based on all street segments (n=841) within a 0.4km network buffer from each study school (n=18). The GIS-based school walkability, a combination of road connectivity, vehicular traffic exposure, and residential density, was also measured in a 2km network buffer around each school. The participants were individuals aged 8-11 years (n=315) who participated in the Walking School Bus randomized controlled trial project. Mixed-effects logistic and linear models were used to examine theschool walkability index.
The audit-based school walkability index can be used as a complementary tool for measuring walkability near low-income elementary schools along with existing GIS-based school walkability index.
Many modified lateral lumbar interbody fusion techniques for lumbar degenerative diseases have been described by different authors. However, relatively high rates of vascular injury, peritoneal laceration, and even ureteral injury have been reported.
The objectives of this study were firstly to present the detailed, standardized technical notes and describe the required standard characteristics of the designed surgical system of LaLIF and secondly to evaluate clinical outcomes and highlight the approach-related complications.
The mini-open LaLIF is described in a step-wise manner. The outcome measures were operative parameters, self-report measures, radiographic measures, and complications within 1 month of surgery. Operative parameters measured included operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and length of hospital stay. The self-report measures include Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), and Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) score. The radiographic measures including the r surgeons in the early stages of learning, by using instruments with the required standard characteristics, the standardized surgical steps, modified incision site, vertical trajectory, and the direct visualization during the entire procedure.
To make the lateral lumbar fusion process repeatable and also maintain a shallow learning curve, especially for surgeons in the early stages of learning, by using instruments with the required standard characteristics, the standardized surgical steps, modified incision site, vertical trajectory, and the direct visualization during the entire procedure.
Simvastatin, a drug for lowering serum cholesterol, has been shown to enhance bone regeneration, but few studies have qualitatively and quantitatively tested its effect when used topically in different animal models. This study aims to investigate topical administration of simvastatin as a bone regeneration inducer by testing its effect on bone formation in both long tubular bone and flat bone defect, and the mechanism involved.
Two animal models were used for testing the effect of simvastatin on entochondrostosis and intramembranous ossification respectively. Simvastatin of different dosages combined with poly lactic acid were implanted in extreme radial defects of 12 adult male New Zealand rabbits. Bone formation was monitored using x-ray and CT-scan and measured using x-ray scales, pixel values and spiral CT-scan for 16 weeks before being subject to histological and immunohistochemistry examination. selleck chemical The result was compared with that of autograft and blank control groups. Simvastatin with thrombin and ff BMP-2 and HIF-1 alpha. The effect of simvastatin on bone regeneration is comparable to autograft.
Topical administration of simvastatin can repair bone defect in both long tubular bones and flat bones of rabbits and monkeys as effectively as autograft. Given that it is cheap, safe and already in clinical use, simvastatin might be considered as a bone regeneration inducer with great potential.
