The postmenopausal older adult women were less likely to use FP methods than those in their premenopausal state (OR = 0.13). Women with no schooling were less likely to use FP methods than those with degree/professional qualifications. Single and married women were less likely to use FP methods than the divorced/widowed/separated. The study recommends the promotion of education and training on FP use among the older adult women that will take into consideration their menopausal status and desire for another child. The training should be home-based.Fluoride is essential for the development of teeth and bone but its excessive exposure causes reprotoxic effects. We have studied the graded effects of different doses of sodium fluoride (NaF) on 24 adult Wistar rats which were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6). All the rats were given normal diet prepared in our laboratory. Control (group I) rats were received vehicle only and treated rats (group II, III, and IV) were administered NaF orally at 10, 15, and 20 mg/kg/d doses, respectively, for 30 consecutive days. Gravimetric index of testis was decreased significantly in group III and IV rats but such changes were not observed in the accessory reproductive organs. Marked alterations in number, motility, viability, and plasma membrane functional integrity of caudal spermatozoa were noted in most of the treated groups. Noticeable alterations in testicular histoarchitecture were observed in group III and IV rats. Graded Changes of testicular redox homeostasis were noted by assessment of enzymatic (superoxide dismutase [SOD], catalase, glutathione s-transferase [GST], and glutathione peroxidase [GPx]) and nonenzymatic (malondialdehyde [MDA] and protein carbonyl [PC]) markers. Changes of testicular functional markers (acid phosphatase [ACP], alkaline phosphatase [ALP], and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity) were noted in group III and IV rats. DNA fragmentation assay proved the possibility of DNA damage caused by oxidative stress, as evidenced by prominent trailing pattern of fragmented testicular genomic DNA from group III and IV rats. The study concludes that fluoride-mediated oxidative stress not only impedes the structural and functional facets of testis but also results in testicular DNA damage.Synaptojanin 2 (SYNJ2) regulates cell proliferation and apoptosis via dephosphorylating plasma membrane phosphoinositides. Aim of this study is to first seek the full-scale expression levels and potential emerging roles of SYNJ2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We systematically analyzed SYNJ2 mRNA expression and protein levels in HCC tissues based on large-scale data and in-house immunohistochemistry (IHC). The clinical significance and risk factors for SYNJ2-related HCC cases were identified. A nomogram of prognosis was created and its performance was validated by concordance index (C-index) and shown in calibration plots. Based on the identified differentially coexpressed genes (DCGs) of SYNJ2, enriched annotations and potential pathways were predicted, and the protein interacting networks were mapped. Upregulated SYNJ2 in 3,728 HCC and 3,203 non-HCC tissues were verified and in-house IHC showed higher protein levels of SYNJ2 in HCC tissues. Pathologic T stage was identified as a risk factor. Upregulated mRNA levels and mutated SYNJ2 might cause a poorer outcome. The C-index of the nomogram model constructed by SYNJ2 level, age, gender, TNM classification, grade, and stage was evaluated as 0.643 (95%CI = 0.619-0.668) with well-calibrated plots. A total of 2,533 DCGs were extracted and mainly functioned together with SYNJ2 in metabolic pathways. Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP) 2 plays an important role in the regulation of cell adhesion, migration, growth, and apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of serum IGFBP2 as a biomarker for disease activity and severity in hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) induced by enterohemorrhagic
(EHEC).
IGFBP2 production by human renal glomerular endothelial cells (RGECs) after exposure to Shiga toxin 2 (Stx-2) was investigated
. Serum IGFBP2 levels in blood samples obtained from 22 patients with HUS and 10 healthy controls (HCs) were quantified using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results were compared to the clinical features of HUS and serum tau and cytokine levels.
Stx-2 induced the production of IGFBP2 in RGECs in a dose-dependent manner. Serum IGFBP2 levels were significantly higher in patients with HUS than in HCs and correlated with disease severity. We wanted to establish patients' attitudes towards the potential use of stability-tape.Materials and Methods One-hundred consecutive patients attending for local-anaesthetic cataract surgery were asked to complete a pre-operative questionnaire. This explored patient concerns and views regarding intra-operative head movement and the potential use of stability-tape.Results All 100-patients completed the questionnaire. The median head movement concern score was 2 out of 10 (range 1-9, IQR 1-5). Eighty-four percent felt stability tape should be offered to all patients and 97% would consent for its' use. Only 6% voiced concern about the use of stability-tape (95% CI 2.2%, 12.6%).Conclusion Patients had low concern for moving their head during surgery. The concept of stability-tape to minimize head movements during cataract surgery was viewed positively by most patients. This strategy may promote safer surgery in selected cases.
