001). Kaplan-Meier analysis during a median follow-up of 17.3 months showed that higher T mass index and increased BNP level correlated with MACE. CONCLUSIONS Increased LV trabeculation was associated with LV dysfunction/remodelling and impaired outcomes in NICM of various etiologies. Patients with schizophrenia exhibit disrupted thalamocortical connections that relate to aspects of symptoms and deficits in cognition. Targeted cognitive training (TCT) of the auditory system in schizophrenia has been shown to improve cognition, but its impact on thalamocortical connectivity is not known. Here we examined thalamocortical connections that may be neuroplastic in response to TCT using a region of interest (ROI) approach. Metabolism inhibitor Participants were randomly assigned to either 40 h of TCT (N = 24) or an active control condition (CG; N = 20). Participants underwent resting state fMRI and cognitive testing both before and after training. Changes in thalamocortical connectivity were measured in 15 ROIs derived from a previous study comparing a large sample of schizophrenia subjects with healthy controls. A significant group by time interaction was observed in a left superior temporal ROI which was previously found to exhibit thalamocortical hyper-connectivity in patients with schizophrenia. Changes in this ROI reflected thalamic connectivity increases in the TCT group, while the CG group showed decreases. Additionally, the relationship between connectivity change and change in global cognition showed a slope difference between groups, with increases in thalamo-temporal connectivity correlating with improvements in global cognition in TCT. No significant relationships were observed with changes in clinical symptoms or functioning. These findings demonstrate that TCT may influence intrinsic functional connections in young individuals with schizophrenia, such that improvements in cognition correspond to compensatory increases in connectivity in a temporal region previously shown to exhibit thalamic hyper-connectivity. Self-alienation is a common characterization of various disturbing experiences in patients with schizophrenia. A vivid example comes from patient reports of not recognizing themselves when inspecting their specular image in the mirror. By applying the multisensory paradigm of the Enfacement Illusion, this study empirically addresses the specular Self-Other discrimination in patients with schizophrenia. 35 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and 35 healthy matched controls were enrolled in the study. Results found that the group of patients with schizophrenia had a significant skewed self-other discrimination towards the other at baseline. Furthermore, the effect of visuo-tactile stimulation on self-recognition in the schizophrenia patients was significantly altered after both synchronous and asynchronous stimulation compared to baseline. This contrasted with healthy controls which in line with earlier studies only had significantly different self-recognition after synchronous stimulation. The study thus suggests that patients with schizophrenia have deviations in their specular self-recognition compared to healthy controls. Moreover, that temporal factors in multisensory integration may contribute to alterations of self-related stimuli in patients with schizophrenia. OBJECTIVE To assess if anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) is a noninvasive diagnostic method suitable to differentiate benign corneo-conjunctival lesions (pterygium) from premalignant lesions (corneo-conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia, CIN). MATERIAL AND METHODS An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted in 22 eyes with conjunctival lesions clinically suspicious for pterygium and CIN during two years. Morphological differences between both lesions were studied with AS-OCT; epithelial thicknesses (EE) and extension length on corneal surface (GIC) were compared between both groups. A surgical excision of the lesion was performed for histopathological diagnosis. RESULTS Mean age of patients with pterygium (n=18) was 52.67±15 y.o and 74±12 y.o in subjects with CIN (n=4) (p less then 0.021). In pterygia, AS-OCT showed typical features (normal, thinning or slightly thickened EE; 77.4±26μm), in addition to an increase in wedge-shaped subepithelial tissue. Patients with CIN had a mean thickened EE (262.5±124μm) and strongly hyperreflective, with abrupt transition between normal and pathological epithelium. Analysis of EE between subjects with pterygium and CIN revealed statistically significant differences (p less then 0.002). ROC curve revealed a 100% sensitivity and specificity of OCT-SA in differentiation between CIN and pterygium, using 141μm as cutoff point of EE. CONCLUSION AS-OCT is a useful tool for the differentiation between pterygium and CIN able to provide typical morphological characteristics. An EE greater than 141μm in AS-OCT suggests a sensitivity and specificity of 100% for the diagnosis of CIN. Lactobacillus plantarum has been identified as a probiotic bacterium owing to its role in immune regulation and maintenance of intestinal permeability. Here, we investigated the anti-colitic effects and mechanism of L. plantarum CBT LP3 (LP3). This in vivo study was performed using dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) to induce colitis in mice. Mice were randomly divided into three groups a control supplied with normal drinking water, a DSS-treated group followed by oral administration of vehicle, and a DSS-treated group gavaged with LP3 daily for 7 days following DSS administration. An analysis of macrophages and T cell subsets harvesting from peritonium cavity cells and splenocytes was performed using a flow cytometric assay. Gene expression and cytokine profiles were measured using quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. The administration of LP3 significantly attenuated disease activity and histolopathology compared to control. LP3 had anti-inflammatory effects, with increased induction of regulatory T cells and type 2 helper T cells in splenocytes and restoration of goblet cells accompanied by suppression of proinflammatory cytokine expressions.
