Discussion focuses on sex-positive frameworks, normalising intimacy, stigma and historical mistrust of medical and pharmaceutical institutions, and the social meanings of biomedical prevention technologies (e.g. PrEP) in relation to dominant norms of sexuality and gender. Thus, the computational expression signature of OsSAP genes led to a better understanding of gene dynamism in diverse developmental tissues/organs. Transcriptional regulation analysis of key OsSAP genes in response to stress (drought and salinity) suggested the novel role of OsSAP1, OsSAP2, OsSAP5, OsSAP7, OsSAP8 and OsSAP11 in AbS. Altogether, the study provides deeper insights on molecular characteristics of OsSAP genes, which could be deployed further to decipher their precise functional roles in AbS responses.INTRODUCTION The objective of this study is to investigate the role of thyroid hormone (TH) in the pathogenesis of intestinal dysganglionosis (ID). METHODS A zebrafish model of congenital hypothyroidism (CH) was created by exposing the larvae to the 6-propyl-2-thiouracil (PTU). The enteric neurons were labeled with anti-HuC/D antibodies. The number of enteric neurons was counted. The larval intestine was dissociated and stained with anti-p75 and anti-α4 integrin antibodies. Mitosis and apoptosis of the p75+ α4 integrin+ enteric neural crest cells (ENCCs) were studied using flow cytometry. Intestinal motility was studied by analyzing the transit of fluorescent tracers. RESULTS PTU (25 mg/L) significantly reduced TH production at 6- and 9-days post fertilization without changing the body length, body weight, and intestinal length of the larvae. Furthermore, PTU inhibited mitosis of ENCCs and reduced the number of enteric neurons throughout the larval zebrafish intestine. Importantly, PTU inhibited intestinal transit of fluorescent tracers. Finally, thyroxine supplementation restored ENCC mitosis, increased the number of enteric neurons, and recovered intestinal motility in the PTU-treated larvae. CONCLUSIONS PTU inhibited TH production, reduced the number of enteric neurons, impaired intestinal motility, and impeded ENCC mitosis in zebrafish, suggesting a possible role of CH in the pathogenesis of ID.Purpose To describe the perspectives of caregivers in terms of using singing and music in their everyday work, and of their effect on care and interaction with the person with dementia.Methods A qualitative design was used, consisting of group discussions with professional caregivers from three nursing homes in a medium-sized city in a rural area of Sweden.Results The results demonstrate that caregiver singing and music can be powerful and useful in the care of and in communication with persons with dementia. Music, for example, can be used to facilitate socialization as it opens up for discussion, while caregiver singing was preferable when it came to the facilitation of care situations and interaction.Conclusions Singing and music can be powerful and useful tools in the care of and in communication with persons with dementia. Regardless of whether singing or music is used, the most important factor is that a person-centred approach is adopted so as to make the music a facilitative tool. Caregiver singing and music are ways to connect with the person with dementia and an understanding of their use can contribute to dementia research. The current study sought to validate previously published standardized regression-based (SRB) equations for the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) Indexes and subtests.Methods Duff and colleagues's SRB prediction equations, developed from 223 cognitively intact primary care patients, were applied to an independent sample of robustly cognitively intact (n = 129) community-dwelling older adults assessed with the RBANS twice over a one-year period.Results Results suggest that the cognitively intact participants in the current validation sample possessed significantly better Observed Follow-up scores than was predicted based on Duff's developmental sample across most RBANS Indexes and many RBANS subtests, though significantly lower Observed Follow-up scores were observed for the Visuospatial/Constructional Index than was predicted.
