Sepsis is a "life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection", which is identified by a >2 point increase from patient baseline in the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score (SOFAs). The prevalence and outcome of patients with sepsis has been mainly assessed in ICU patients, while few data are available for patients admitted to internal medicine wards. Our purpose was to evaluate the prevalence and the clinical outcome of patients with sepsis in an internal medicine-ward.
This is a single-center retrospective observational study evaluating all patients admitted over a 2-month period (October and Novembre 2015) in the internal medicine ward of the San Giovanni di Dio Hospital in Florence. Patients with clinical and/or instrumental signs of bacterial infection were evaluated with SOFAs and divided into patients with and without sepsis.
635 patients were evaluated, and 279 of them (43.9%) were diagnosed with a bacterial infection. The diagnosis of sepsis was made in 93 patients (14.6%). In-hospital mortality and transfer to ICU were observed in 16% of patients with sepsis and in 2.5% of patients without sepsis (p<0.0001). A SOFAs value <2 had a negative predic-tive value of 97.5%, and increasing values of SOFAs were associated with a worse prognosis.
The results suggest that a) a high proportion of patients hospitalized in an internal medicine ward are affected by sepsis; b) these patients are burdened with high in-hospital mortality or transfer to ICU; c) SOFA score has a high prognostic power.

The obtained results conclude piano players are highly prone to the risk of developing PRMSD in the upper body.
The findings showed piano players have a higher NDI, lower CVA, and RSP when compared with the non-piano players at a statistically significant level of p-value <0.05.
Playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMSD) are a common problem for the pianist. selleckchem The poor upper body ergonomics influences the natural positioning of the neck and shoulders, which involves forward head posture (FHP) and rounded shoulder posture (RSP). This misaligned position could produce a sensation of pain over the upper body, which affects the piano player and computer users with similar ergonomic posture. Recently, photogrammetry methods are commonly applied in a clinical setting to assess posture. The goal of this research is to compare the upper body playing-related muscu-loskeletal disorders between the piano and the non-piano players by applying photogrammetry.
This causal-comparative study includes 70 participants with 35 piano and 35 non-piano players. The participant's FHP was assessed using a digitized photo to record the Craniovertebral angle (CVA) with the support of Kinovea software. Besides, digital Vernier Calliper used to assess the scapular index on the RSP and Neck disability indices (NDI) used to measure neck pain and functional disability of the participants.

High suspicion of scar endometriosis are painful no-dule in the abdominal scar. Wide surgical excision is the treatment of choice.
Endometriosis has been described as the presence of endometrial tissue outside uterine cavity. Scar endometriosis (SE) is a rare disease reported in 0.03-1.08% of women following gynaecologic surgery. In our retrospective observational cohort study we studied anamnesis, symptoms, surgical procedures and outcomes linked to scar endometriosis in our medical experience from 2004 to 2018.
We reviewed the medical records of 46 patients with a histopathological diagnosis of SE. All patients had a history of at least one previous caesarean section (n=46, 100%). Forty-two patients (91,3%) complained gradually growing nodular abdominal mass near or adjacent to caesarean incision scar, while only 4 patients (8,6%) complained aspecific abdominal pain. Ultrasound scan was performed in all patients (n=46, 100%) and mean size of the nodules at US was 26,8 ± 13,8 mm.
All patients underwent surgery. Seven patients (15,2%) needed mesh implantation, while 39 patients (84,8%) underwent local resection with reconstruction of muscle fascia. Mean follow-up was 31,6 ± 14 months and no patients reported local recurrence of disease.

A variety of tumors can develop in the salivary glands. The aim of this retrospective study was to describe the demographic characteristics of salivary gland tumors (SGT) in the population of a large area of the city of Rome, ASL RM1, over a 4-year period and compare these data with other epidemiological studies. Forty-nine cases were diagnosed as SGT; 63.2% were males and 32.6% were females. The mean age range was 62.13 years. Forty SGT (81.6%) were benign and 9 (18.4%) were malignant. Among benign tumors, Warthin' s tumor was the most common tumor, comprising 55.1% all SGTs followed by Pleomorphic Adenoma and other less common types. Among malignant tumors, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma was the most frequent type. The results of this study suggest that benign tumors are most common in parotid gland and are mainly represented by Warthin's Tumor. Males are the most affected, especially for benign lesions. Regarding malignant tumors, the incidence by gender is variable, as the incidence of several types worldwide. The findings of this study contribute to the knowledge regarding the incidence of SGT.
