The Band Toto Asia
Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. The company considered North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, as opposed to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could be able to read them. However, many of the words were being replaced with foreign ones, like dui from Bengali for verandah.
Origins
Incorporated in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic growth. In the first half of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the nation to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.
The company began expanding internationally in the latter part of the 1980s to take advantage of new markets and sales opportunities. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other manufacturers' products to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and increased the firm's global market share.
In the 1990s Toto began to concentrate on research and development of water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and increase profits. The company embraced a just-in time method of managing supply chains, and it used the same method in its sales program. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction with the customer.
Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance, has a powerful tornado flush that is more environmentally friendly than traditional toilets. Toto also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. Toto also manufactures faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than standard models.
The company's first museum opened in the year 2015 It has exhibits on Toto's most iconic products and their evolution and its group companies (all having to do with ceramics), historical background of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a different gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also includes a bathroom with the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.
Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather and drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
With a name as evocative as Asia you'd think that the group would be prog queens and kings however, it's actually a pretty straight forward rock band. The group was formed as four-piece, and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a diverse musical background, but their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.
스포츠토토 was a huge blockbuster, but not without its share of issues. The record companies put the band under pressure to release a hit single or they would rescind the album. Toto was able achieve this with the help from the hit song "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is the result of their prior experience. Before joining the group, members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic trademark has become the standard of 1980s music, and has inspired a lot of contemporary artists.
The album begins hard with tracks like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. The album also contains jazzier, slower tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distorted AOR that could appear completely unnatural, but actually is very effective.
After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band was through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in after he was charged with drug abuse. the band continued as a trio, which included Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation that was not as successful as IV. However, the group managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album featuring the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure, and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. The more edgy sound of the album was a reflection of the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and an improved, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were as well more refined, more precise and less akin to previous efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam that was released as a set of two CDs called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released a few months later, and the group went on an extensive world tour to promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. It was released as a double-album titled Then And Now in 2001. It was the first album by the band without the single track "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and singer Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis condition that limited his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes and the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in early 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally reforming the band. This lineup, minus Howe who was busy with Yes during that time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also had a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
