A study of wood boring by insects offers unique insights into the bioengineering principles that drive evolutionary adaptations. We show that larval mandibles of the coffee wood stem borer beetle (Xylotrechus quadripes Cerambycidae) have a highly sharp cusp edge to initiate fractures in Arabica wood and a suitable shape to generate small wood chips that are suitable for digestion. In this article, we found that the glucose-induced limitations can greatly enhance the fluorescence of functionalized carbon nanoparticles (CNPs), which are synthesized through one-step thermal pyrolysis method using phenylboronic acid derivative as the precursors. The glucose can assembly onto the surface of the CNPs to form a "shell", limiting the surfaces' intramolecular rotation and reducing non-radiative decay, which hence resulted in enhanced fluorescence of the CNPs. This study investigated the influence of oleocellosis on the membrane fatty acids and wax in lemon fruit rinds at the morphological, physiological, metabolic and molecular levels by using a variety with a high incidence rate of oleocellosis (green lemon). Oleocellosis-damaged rinds showed loose and flaky wax layers with more fissures on the surface, as well as higher contents of C16 and C18 fatty acids and very long chain (VLC) fatty alkanes while lower contents of VLC fatty aldehydes. The main differentially expressed genes, including FabZ, FAD2 and SAD6 involved in the accumulation of C16 and C18 fatty acids and CER1 involved in the transformation of VLC fatty aldehydes to VLC fatty alkanes, were up-regulated by oleocellosis. These results indicate that oleocellosis accelerates the accumulation of membrane free fatty acids and transformation of VLC fatty aldehydes to VLC fatty alkanes.

We searched PubMed and Embase using Medical Subject Headings and keywords related to sSAH, seizure outcome, and neuropsychological outcome. Titles, abstracts, and full-texts were screened in light of inclusion and exclusion criteria that were established a priori. Potential papers were reviewed by 3 reviewers, who reached a consensus on the final papers to be included. link3 Literature review identified 208 abstracts from which a total of 29 full-text articles were reviewed. Six studies containing data from 4 countries (3 continents) met our inclusion criteria. The seizure-free rates at 12 months after sSAH ranged from 59.1% to 61.5% in 4 studies. Four studies showed that seizure-free rates ranged from 56% to 82.6% at 24 months after surgery. Six studies evaluated the neuropsychological changes of patients with MTLE after sSAH, including intelligence, verbal memory, nonverbal memory, language function, and so on. In terms of neuropsychological outcomes, there are some differences among the 6 studies. Taken together, sSAH can provide a considerable rate of seizure freedom. In addition, the neuropsychological outcomes of patients who underwent sSAH were slightly different among 6 studies. Therefore, large-scale case series or randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed to clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the sSAH.
